Engine Start button issue

I have a S550 US version, with keyless-Go function

Keyless-Go function is working perfectly
as for the start button, previously, the engine usually starts immediately after clicking it (while depressing the brakes).
All of a sudden, now I need to click it 3 times until the engine starts, it is acting exactly as if I am using the smart key, position 1, position 2 then ignition

Is this an option that can be changed? or is there any error?

Anybody had the same issue?

While your foot is on the brake, you have to hold down the button until the car starts. You don't just 'click' push it once.

If you are doing it correctly, but you have to click it 3 times to step through the sequence, then perhaps your Keyless Go button needs replacement. Maybe you can go to the service dept at the local dealership and pull out the button to swap it with one of theirs to compare? See if that would make a difference.

With the newer models (we have 2015's), you do not have to hold the button in until the engine starts. Just pressing and releasing the button will cause the car to complete the start sequence.

Not sure if the 2007's are this way or not. . .

single click only should start with keyless go. no holding.

does it take exactly three clicks every time to start your car?

OK, my bad. I just went to try the single click and it works. Guess I wasn't paying attention when the Mercedes sales guy showed me.

This is incorrect. Just a quick tap of the start button should start the car....with foot firmly on the brake. No need to keep it pressed until the car is started.

Perhaps try changing the fob battery.

Thanks All for your replies
Yes previously a single click without holding it (while depressing the brakes) used to turn on the engine

Now, It takes exactly 3 clicks for the engine to start (while depressing the brakes)

any button can work, there is no coding in the button?

If you mean the remote battery, I already did that and no change

Does the car know you have the key with you?

Pull the button off, run a couple of cycles of starting and stopping the car with the key in the ignition, then put the button back on. That may reset it.

3 clicks precisely. Lol... Try starting car the same way (3 clicks) without pressing the brake pedal. If it starts your brake pedal switch is dead. If it doesn't start I would read the keyless go module for errors and diagnose accordingly. It might need to be reset.

I tried this as well, the car did not start without depressing the brakes
I will read the errors and see

Depends on the weather
I've never had to hold the button down in my S550 or S600. I just press it and let it go and then it starts...unlike some other cars you have to hold it until it starts. My XJL - you have to press it until it starts and press it until it turns off. My vette, I just tap the brake (not hold it), hit the start button and it fires up.

For what it’s worth… my wife returned from walking our two Brittany’s.

She then hopped into her new(for us) 2013 S550 with her still turned on Garmin remote dog training transmitter in her purse. After pressing the start button, a message on the dash told her to insert the key into the ignition to start the car.

Clever girl she is, she then wondered if the Garmin remote training transmitter was interfering with Keyless Go. So she turned off the dog training transmitter and the start button once again functioned normally.

Wonder if your three press start button problem may be related to a similar issue.

Same here, but recently that's not the case for me. Probably due to the "replace battery in remote, low battery" warning on the dash for the remote key. I haven't put the new battery in yet. I'm guessing when the battery is low, the car may not sense the key is in the car all the time....

Interesting. I notice that when I have my phone in the same pocket as the remote key, when I reach for the door handles it needs several tries before the door locks/unlocks.

Perhaps there is radio interference, a low battery or combination thereof?

Thank you all for your replies

I had a problem with the gearbox, so I took it to the workshop

I did not mention this issue, they checked the car and change the torque converter

When I took my car back, it was back to normal: one click and viola "fires up"

I don't think it is related to what they changed, but I guess when he checked the car with star, he reset something which seems that it solved it

anyway It is back normal

Ok, I just put two, 2032 batteries in my remote. Remember, THIS REMOTE TAKES TWO BATTERIES. The new batteries are thicker but do fit.

Message on the dash is gone, and the start button works instantly now. Your batteries just may be low.
