probably decided to stop posting once he realized we were right since page 1. it cost him just as much, if not more, to buy the wreck and try to fix it (with less than acceptable results), than to buy a clean title car with similar mileage that did not need bodywork.

Wishful thinking. He's likely either buying more unnecessary parts, staring at his dented panels, signed up for classes at common sense school, or finally went back to work so he has money to pay for his bad habits.

Haven't been able to catch up on this thread in a while due to that nagging thing called work, but it looks like we made some progress here.
MBS55 let the Maaco boys pull the car back into shape, save for a couple minor creases on the side. The AFTER photos didn't look too bad. I'm thinking he can drive it as is. It's not perfection, but I've seen cars in worse shape on the roads. My only question is, did the car get registered for normal operation?

Looks like he traded it in for a new Hyundai Elantra.
MSRP was 16k. He traded in the S + payed 15.5k out of pocket. Dealership then proceeded to remove the steering wheel and Fridge and sent the trade in to scrape yard! lmao

There's one on ebay for $340. New....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121962684532?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
However he listed it for a W221, but the years are off.

I haven't registered the 'Cedes in Washington yet. Oregon title is coming in next week, as to stay away from inspection.

Actually, if the focus was just the rear body damage as originally anticipated, without the forays into fridges and steering wheels and absent the unexpected mech stuff, while the original guess of $1k and some mallet work was low it wasn't that low.
The $1300 pull took about 80% of the visible damage out. Add the money for lamps and the rear bumper and for the PDR and it's still under $3k. Higher than $1k but way cheaper than the $10k I guessed originally from the pics in the yard.
So, in the end I would say Benz55 pulled it off. Was there an easier way to get an 07 for $15k? Probably, but look at the sheer entertainment value of the thread.

Bottom line: the car sustained a severe rear hit, so it could never be made perfect again, no matter how much work is done to the panels. The original structural integrity is no longer intact, no matter how good the pull might have been. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig.
What I really don't like is that he's going to try and hide the damage by finagling the registration to get a clean title. So any future owner might never know that they are buying a wrecked car. Sounds like a typical shady Russian tactic to me.
