Who has a tuned W221 S600?

Just wondering who else on the board has a tuned S600? I have a Eurocharged tune on mine by Jerry and it is a night and day difference. I honestly don't run the car hard and typically average around 21mpg on interstate driving, but the stump-pulling torque is certainly there when desired! I am always pleased when driving this vehicle. I would like to compare it to a W221 S65 to see how different they feel. I have no doubt the 6.0 liter would be quicker, but the S600 reminds me of the turbocharged Regal T-Types from the mid 80's. No flash, just an emblem or two and the power of the Grand National.

I don't intend to do any additional mods other than possibly a TCU mod to protect the 722.6 a little better, and possibly an exhaust to make the turbos a little more audible.

Does anyone else have mods? If so, what did you go with?

I did my CL 600 and it is wondefful. I didn't have them do the TCU because I didn't want the stiffer shifts. I did it in my W215 and I don't like the harder shift points. I would like to buy a set of AMG 63 or 65 mufflers. The 600 is silent and I'd like some actual sounds coming from the exhaust.

A very subtle groan from the exhaust wouldn't be bad. The 600 is a stealth missile. It can surprise the heck out of many muscle car owners.

From what I understand, the TCU tune makes a huge difference in performance when combined with the ECU tune. It really exploits the torque that these cars have. And the harder shifts only happen during WOT. Same soft shifts during normal acceleration.

I'd consider getting both, but I certainly appreciate the warranty I have on my car. The ECU tune helps burn out the coil packs a lot faster too.

I have heard that about the coil packs. I am not personally sure if it is true or not (and hope I don't find out!). All tuners say that your car must be in properly maintained condition before considering tuning and performance options.

I have also heard from a Mercedes dealer that many of the V12 (mainly former than the M275) cars sit most of their lives and are not driven the way they were intended, which leads to problems. Again, I don't know about this either.

So far no issues and certainly a pleasure to drive!

Thank you for your advise but I don't think the updated coil packs are having issues like the previous generations. All the tune does from my understanding it boost air fuel ratio and turbo pressure, which changes the power curve. I do notice not a single ounce of turbo lag and on the 600 you can never hear when the turbo's spool up. My friend has a newer CL 550 that I bought him and you can definitely here those turbo's winding up. Also the direct injection sounds like it has lifter noise, but again we are talking two different class of vehicles. Again, Id still love more sound. The car is like a whisper, no sound whatsoever.

Goes with the demographic. Who is going to buy a new S600 and flog it?

So they languish in 1500 RPM hell.

I look at them as the same way I do a '57 Chevy or any other car. Beat on them a little bit from time to time to extend their life. Blow out the carbon. Get the RPMs up.

Now when I say beat on it, get it up to operating temps and do a few random 20-70 mph runs. Actually 100 mph because 70 comes on too fast. Test out the electrics, sunshades, windows, mirrors, etc. from time to time.

Dang thing was meant to be driven, not be a museum piece. You have 600lb/ft of torque. Use it. There aren't a lot of 4 second cars in this price range.
