Cost of a new key
I purchased a 2007 S550 without a spare key (keyless go).
Reading here (and on the "competition's"), I'm left with no other choice but going to a dealer.
1. Does it have to be a local dealer (to buy it from)?
2. Is that the only option?
3. Anyone knows pricing?

You will have to bring the vehicle to a dealer along with proof of ownership to purchase a new key. They will want to see that your driver's license and the vehicle registration are for the same person. Keyless-Go keys are more expensive.

Hi All,
I shopped almost every dealer in SoCal.
Price fluctuates $359-520.
To my surprise, Santa Monica Simonson had the lowest price.
To those of you who wondered how it works:
Order the key with SA, whose job is to verify your credentials (registration/title + DL).
The order is placed by parts, and it's manufactured entirely per your VIN.
48 hours, got a call from parts.
If Keyless-GO, open doors with the remote.
Pull the push button in the dash, out (YES, it come out, exposing a regular MB key hole...).
Insert your new key and start the car.
Turn the car off and insert back the push button.
Now everything will work, including "Push to Start" and locking/unlocking with hands outside the door handle.
The blade arrives already carved for our car.
Service dept. had no role with the new key. In many stealerships you're charged extra for "Programming" the new remote and/or carving the blade...

I have learned this the hard way. When you buy a used car, insist on 2 keys. If they cannot provide 2 keys, discount the price $300-500 for Mercedes or BMW. The dealer may offer to get you a key instead of the discount.
It is a bit cheaper for Ford ($130) if you have only one key. The third key is only $30 online and you can it cut and program it yourself.
