I have a 2010 S550 4Matic and have noticed something odd. I have not yet been able to discern what the pattern is. The garage door buttons (Homelink) on the interior rear view mirror only work when the car is on. I'm OK with that. What I cannot figure out is why sometimes they work after shutting off the engine, but before opening the driver door, and sometimes they do not. The radio is still playing, so I assumed that the power would still be on to these as well. What other variable am I missing?
Thanks
Tom
I just had a new garage door opener installed and can not get the homelink to work in my BMW or the S class. Works fine in my 2013 Toyota. So annoying.

It could have something to do with the weak *** antenna's that the Germans put in the rear windows of their cars. I get very good range out of mine because it is an early build '07 that has the antenna on the trunk lid. When I had my M5, I had to back all the way up to my garage door in order for the Homelink to open the door. The best thing to do is make sure the wire antenna from the opener is fully extended straight down. This should improve your range slightly. If you cannot get it to connect at all, try following the instructions that came in your car owner's manual to a tee. The Homelink procedure in German cars seems to be different than the other makes.

Did you erase the old garage door code from the button you are trying to program? Hold the button you want to program for a long time (maybe 30 seconds) until the flashing changes. If I remember right I think it starts flashing 2 or 3 times per second. Then follow the programming exactly. Take your garage door remote and put it near the rear view mirror and press and hold that button. Then press and hold the button on the mirror you want to program. After about 10 seconds the light will flash differently.
Then press the learn button on your garage door head unit. Press the button on the mirror about 3 times with a 2 second pause in between each press.
That worked for me. Let me know if it works for you.
nothing, the power is still applied to homelink, the radio, the mirror for a time, then it will shut off.
Thanks Nuru, but that is not how mine works all the time. I agree that is the way it should work. Sometimes it appears I do not have power to the mirror while I still have power to the rest of the car.
I'm sure there is another variable, but I have not found it yet.

wow, that is what I have observed but you are correct some cars do not quite work that way.
