Fan shutting off

1997 E 320 - 2000 S500
Fan shutting off
2008 S500
Air condition didn't seem to be cold but I only have had the car a short time so I wasn't sure if I was just expecting too much ( Florida Car)
Now all of a sudden the fan is shutting off on its own - If I play with controls - turn temperature up then back down
Turn AC on or off

When the fan comes on now ice cold - never before - maybe it never was actually on full
What do you think is wrong

Removed to replace - Repaired
2008 - S550
I read in the forum that if blower was not working to try tapping under passage side ...while on 7 .. which worked
I read also how to clean up but I decided to purchase new blower motor
I removed blower motor and got ready to install new but I then noted a component missing and the plug on the motor was male not female as needed
It seems I may be missing the Blower Motor Resistor/Regulator another $200.00+
I am sure I could have removed from old and installed in new motor but I decided to wait to buy new regulator and fix old for now
I cleaned up motor - too away minor rust - very light lube at the bearing points - blew out with air and tested
All performed perfectly
I reinstalled and blower seems strong
It is 96 and humid in Florida today - Test drive made me still feel it is not cold as it should be when on LO
What should I expect for temp out of main middle vent ??? Anyone know ??? I can't seem to find
I am at 55 at best
