Choice S450 or E550
Hi All ,
Im trying to make that decision between these 2 cars !
I'm using a budget of $20000 and I've found a couple that I like.
The first one is a 2010 E550 4matic with 70k and the 2nd is a S450 with a 100k
I drove the S550 and my wife complained it was too big!
The S450 might be a good compromise.

$20k is too light for either an E or an S. The money you "save" on the front end will more than get wiped out on the back end in repairs. Remember this axiom: There's no such thing as a cheap S Class.

You'd be better off spending more money and buying a much lower mileage car with say 40k miles where you can also purchase warranty coverage that will cover you for the amount of time you plan on keeping the car. The higher cost of the lower mileage car plus warranty cost will likely cost you far less than the higher mileage cheaper car over the long run by the time you factor in potentially massive repair costs. The cars your considering with those mileages are right around where huge repair costs start to rear their ugly heads.

I think $30k on a late model low mileage E is better spent than $40k on an S. Don't buy anything that a reputable warranty company wouldn't write a policy on. After you find a car that a warranty company thinks is a safe bet to offer a warranty on, buy the warranty when you buy the car. They can run from three or four grand to up into the $20k range. That's not a misprint.

2003 S500 4Matic (SOLD) + 2004 S55 (SOLD) 2005 CLK 500 Cabriolet 2008 S 450
S 450 has smaller engine, smaller rear door and rear seat area. Drives like an S 550 but not quite the power.

The E class is loaded. It's easier and cheaper to warranty. I doubt the S class is elgible for a warranty.
The E class is a much smaller car than the S class. If passenger comfort is what you strive for the S class is better.
If performance is what you desire the E class will preform better do it's oversized motor tighter sport suspension, smaller and lighter body.
