My car is in the shop getting a single 6.5" Sundown in a small box with a Sundown amp.
900.00 installed. Will let you know if it does the trick.

Quote: Now i'm wondering if the standard HK throws more bass than the B&O. It's possible it does.
Looking at the speaker arrays, the HK gets two 8" subwoofers in the front doors, plus the 8x12 on the rear deck ported to the trunk. These are very stout dual coil subs that can handle a lot of power. (They don't get a lot of power in the factory set up, but they performed great in the aftermarket set up).

The BO gets conventional 6" single coil woofers in all four doors, and the subs on the rear deck are 8", don't appear to be dual coiled and the module appears to be sealed (not ported to the trunk). In a car the size of a 221 that seems like it would have underwhelming bass.

Boom! There it is!
Smallish Birch vented box with 6.5":

Sundown amp:
http://www.sundownaudio.com/index.ph.../sae-1000d-v-2
A breakout box and a knob for under the dash.
It sounds very good and it might be a little extreme but for 900.00 and no permanent damage to my car.. I could not be more happy.
Someone could duplicate this system at a small fraction of the money and get thirty percent of the sound that I have and be totally happy with it.
Pictures later!

Such a simple solution to a problem! I would have never believed I could be happy with a box in the trunk without porting into the cabin. My knob is way under the dash. Turned all the way down it adds a little something. Halfway up is just to impress the kiddies.

Im affraid im on the other end of the scale, I didnt want to tear my car apart or have to add more batteries split chargers and 0AWG cables all over the place, but my system which is ported through the existing sub on back shelf is the most powerful without altering the cars electrical system and I love it but would not play it with the kids in the car!!

I get that for sure. Mine is very simple, it is a tiny 6.5" in a small box and the battery is right there anyway.. And the Class D amp is very efficient as well.

That happened at my house. Started off with one big REL sub, then a second. That lasted a while. Then my friend John Nolte of Nolte Audio made me a deal on two bass enclosures with four 10" SQ woofers each. Around 350 LBs each box! Crazy good bass. He wants to make a dual 18" using my basement as a box for sub bass. I said no.
I already have three 110v circuits to run my home system...

I use 2x JL audio TW5's. 10". They are speciallly made with small enclosures in mind. The W212 doesn't even require you to use a separate line driver either. A good audio amp with a 24db/oct cutoff will really scratch your bass head itch!

my wife loves to put things in my boot that has no place in there but can damage my sub plus they dont make grills for very large and powerful 15" subs and to top it off the thicker the grill and smaller the squares the more air movement is restricted which is always bad!! but i should have sprayed it black!!

Why didn't they set up the box to fire against the back seat. Can you flip it around?

It was installed that way because theres no port into the car that way the air comes through the hole the old stock sub was in on rear shelf its very effective plus youd never know how powerful it is util you turn it up!!

Try sticking your stuff in her boot and see how she likes it! Start with something small and then once she gets used to it go bigger.
