S class 2006
Ism.module faulty

My Mercedes a class has run 80000miles and as I understand after the ism going fault that the car transmission guild was in the chamber only 1 and half litre other that the amount which was in the torque converter.

So basically what I want to know is the ism.is fault because of normal wear and tear or was it because of my negligence.

Is there a way I can check there is no further damage to the car via some tools as I don't want the new ism which I put also to get faulty if the fault lies ahead , preferably a way in which he does not have to remove the sum of parts from under the car completely.

Thank you
