Bad battery?
Has anyone had to have a battery replaced in an s550. I have a 2010 and was told I needed to have the battery replaced. I haven't been to the dealer yet. Just wanted to get some input from you so I will know what kind of pricing to expect.

On a 2010, the main battery is under the hood with easy access, while there is an accessory battery under the dash. Probably not a bad idea to let the dealer change out the accessory battery if it needs to be replaced. But the main battery is very easy to change out. You can save a fortune by purchasing the battery from Walmart or another retailer for likely around $150. I believe the proper under hood battery on your car is an AGM H8. Some places like Autozone and others will swap out the battery and not charge you labor rates.

autozone's AGM premium (i believe) battery for $180+tax (here in CA) will do the trick , return the old one for a core back.
dealer most likely will quote you for around $350-400 id guess

Sam's club has it. When I called them before I posted, they said they didn't, but they do. Two choices. Again, this is for 2010-2013 S550 with ONE battery up front, both 3 year free replacement:

Bad battery
The dealer quoted me with $399 plus tax to replace the battery on my 2010 s550. They said the replacement also involves recalibrating the command system etc while replacing the battery. Is there any validity to this or are they just telling me this to insure that I will use them to replace the battery and not do it myself?

Simple install at Sam's. Best price too. They even sprayed the red protector on the terminals to stop corrosion. Install is free. $169.

The only thing I notices is the auto/up down for the rear windows wouldn't work, you have to hold button up after. But I found out it's easy to reset it, buy holding the button up after the window goes up for 10 seconds.

I think it has more power than the OEM specs, the new AGM aftermarket. I'll admit I miss the looks of Mercedes branded battery a little, (that's just my **** self) but like the quicker starting.

Those Duracell batteries, along with almost all other brand AGM H8 batteries were likely made in the same plant as the OEM Benz battery. The only difference is the label put on them. Is it worth paying 2 to 3 times more for the paper label on the battery?

My local dealer just quoted me $314 out the door for the OEM, and told me that the warranty was only for 1 year? So that Duracell Platinum one sounds pretty good to me. Once I called MBRACE to have my local dealer come and check out the battery as it was giving me trouble. The responder quoted me $299 for an OEM installed in the field at my house.

Go with the Duracell AGM. Also, Sam's club installs for free, and it's a super simple install.
EDIT, this battery from Sam's has 3 year free replacement, at the $169.

Do the 2011s have this under dash accessory battery? I keep reading different answers and really just want an honest one

In short yes they do they are tucked under dash on drivers side its a bit difficult to see it as its hidden away quiet well but on the 2011 cars they do exist!!
