I have a 2007 S550. I got this message in RED ". "Drive to workshop without shiftin Gears"

After looking through this thread, it looked to be a 1,000 dollars or so repair. The dealship my car is at is telling me 3,000 dollars because he has to replace the shifter and the steering colum (I think).

anybody that has had this done...does this sound right?

Parts and labor to replace my gear shifter was $562 (my wife yanked on it and broke it off). The gear shifter ring also includes the turn signal and cruise stalk. If you think the repair costs seem unreasonable, then take it to another dealer for diagnosis or an indy who has experience with STAR and working on these cars.

It is usually your servo inside the transmission. Not expensive and certainly not $3k.

Yeah, I've gotten hit with that warning and it was just a servo that was about to go bad. A few hundred dollars. The warning is to prevent it failing while in Park or Reverse and leaving you stranded.
