New tires needed! Continental DWS 06 or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 plus?

I need new tires for and not sure what to go with.

Continental DWS 06 or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 plus? These are both all season high performance. Has anyone tried both or have any options. I think both of these tires were re-done in the past year with these newer models....

255/35/20 front
275/35/20 rear

w221 4matic but looking for opinions.

Save yourself a bunch of money and go with Hankook Ventus S1/Noble 2 tires. They are rated identical to the Michelins and perform every bit as good. And they come in the sizes you're looking for.

VENTUS S1 NOBLE2

Ultra High Performance All-Season

Jason.. Dave told me about these a little while back and I am pleased with them. I had the AS3's prior to the Hankooks.

I came here to recommend the ventus but I see folks beat me to it. Best tire for the money. A bit squishy and vague, but perfect for the nature of the s- class

Continental

If that's the Continental that MB recommends, I've used them on my last three s classes. For quiet, smooth ride I'm very impressed.

Based on my research it is not recommended to stagger a 4matic

As for which tire, in my experience if there is snow or ice more than once in a blue moon there is no replacement for the DWS 06. Except if you go full winter

Our E500 4-Matic came with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 's. All (4) are 245/40/R18's. I would buy them again. They seem to fill the wheel wells nicely. Had to paint the brake calipers silver as they are quite visible with the open style AMG wheels.

The one I'm referring to tis the A/S 3+, the "+" is the next version that came out a year ago. I went with the Michelin as there's now a $70 rebate there wasn't there earlier. This mich and that conti are both rateed as #1 and #2 conti. But mich does a little better in colder temps I was told.

No it is another version of continental tires, that is an upgrade, but cheaper than the version that MB puts on stock cars and recommends.

What sizes did you go with. That may have just been coincidence.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's. Quiet and good handling. If you want to shell out more, get the Pilot Super Sports. The car has been super quiet ever since I upgraded, quieter than the A/S 3's. 255/40/19 on front and 275/40/19 on rears.

Thanks for all the feedback again. The tires are great and it's super smoother (Michelin A/S 3+)

Our 2013 S350 came with 20's but I'm changing to 18's and getting the Michelin A/S 3+ tires from Costco. The 20's look nice but don't handle potholes very well. We can get a decent winter here and I'm hoping with 4Matic these will do the job. I had the A/S 3 (not plus) on an E350 and they did OK in snow for driving forward and starting and stopping. However, they were poor for turning corners. Hoping the A/D 3+ is better as advertised.
Do you think these tires would perform better in winter if they were siped?

I cannot express an opinion on the Michelin. I can certainly attest to the DWS06 as the complete package though. Owned them personally on a 2002 A6 and couldn't believe how unbelievably better they performed against OEM rubber bands on a 2014 grand cherokee limited in 4-6 inches of overnight snow in my driveway. Ware was comparable. Now have them on a 2012 S550. Drove them through tornado watch conditions on the northeast by Albany, NY a couple months back. Couldn't have felt any safer. Until I see consistent reviews on something better those are what I drive my family on. Period.

Keep in mind the 20" factory tires are summer only and have a much less stiff sidewall. I bet if you kept the 20's and went with the all season mich a/s 3+ you'd be good. Make sure pressure is 40 psi in front.

Now, on winter, no worry. All reviews are saying the this a/s 3+ is better in cold than the others.

I've never come across one set of all-season tires from any manufacturer that is decent in snow or on ice. If you have to deal with both, a dedicated set of snow tires is recommended, even with 4matic.

When I first bought my S550, it had the factory Continentals. They were OK, but would vibrate between 60-75 mph on certain highway roads in my area. I tried re-balancing them at multiple shops with no success, including replacing one wheel which I was advised was out of round.

I replaced the Continentals with a new set of Yokahama Advan S.4.s. Great tires, but I would still feel a slight vibration on the same highway roads mentioned earlier.

A few months ago, I replaced the Yokohama's with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. The vibrations are now completely gone. I didn't change anything else and that includes the installer of the tires. Also, I always had the vehicle aligned at the dealer after tire installation.
