Engine died while driving 2011 s550
I have been driving for over 50 years and have never had an engine quit while driving until a few days ago. While driving my 2011 s550 sedan at appoximately 30 mph , and without any warning, the engine Just quit, and all the warning lights lit up like a Christmas tree. Fortunately, the steering worked fine, as the brake action was minimal. Traffic was light and I was able to pull of the street into a strip-mall parking lot. I was unable to restart the car at first, but after waiting about 30 minutes it restarted and all the warning lights turned off. I drove to the dealer and was told that the engine control module needed to be replaced. I would not like that happening in rush hour on the freeway at 75 mph, especially at night, in the rain, and on a steep downgrade in the hills.
I’m seriously considering buying a hybrid, such as the GLE550e Plug-in Hybrid, to replace my car, if I could be sure that such a car would automatically continue on battery power if the engine quit.
Anyone know?
