Struts

There are some very mechanically knowledgeable forum contributors here. This technically may be off topic, but I had a W221 and replaced struts. Non-MB dealer purchased struts were put on by my trusted local mechanic. I have a 2012 CL550. Essentially the same W221 platform. The MB dlr. says I need a strut replaced (only 42000 miles, grrrr....). They said special order and $1800+. Yikes.

Are the struts on the CL something special or need calibration or some exclusively MB dlr. secret sauce or are they essentially "plug and play" like my old 2007 S-550? Both are in the same platform/model run era.

All help appreciated. Thank you.

You can buy a reman from Arnott and have your dealer install it, there is a special procedure, like a rodeo, they need to do.

I would try your Madison dealer, they’re very good and not expensive.

Thanks for the thought, but I am in Green Bay, about 120 miles each way. Might not be any real savings.

Not sure how they'd take me waltzing in w/ a part under my arm. Have others done this?

Yes, they will do the job with your part, at least they did it with mine.
