Topside Oil Change - Not enough oil?
I was wondering if any others here were experiencing this. When I use my Pela 6000 oil extractor down the dipstick tube to do an oil change, it pulls out just under 5 litres (5.28 quarts) and then seems like all the oil is out as it starts sucking air and just tiny amounts of oil. The engine in my 2012 S550 4Matic is the bi-turbo V8 4.7 litre.
I thought the car was supposed to take at least 8 quarts if you drain it all out. I was wondering if anyone here knew why it was not sucking more than the ~ 5 litres out, could it be I'm not getting it all out? My oil level is fine and right at the full line and even had the dealer check it and they said enough oil was in there.

You problem is that you're trying to place the tube all the way down the tube which you do not have to do and isn't what Mercedes techs do. The dip stick tube goes all the way to the bottom of the pan and is in fact a tube so all you need to do is create an air tight seal at the top and you will be able to suck all of the oil out. The way to do this is to create an airtight seal at the top of the dipstick tube which acts a an extension of your tube and extends to the bottom of the pan.

Thanks very much that is really helpful! Technically I could just stick the extractor tube just a short way into the dipstick tube and just create a seal and it would suck the oil up the vehicle's dipstick tube and into the extractor insert. I assume to create the suction required in the dipstick tube the oil cap and filter cap would need to be on to create the vacuum? Sorry pretty basic questions here.
I've done the same method on my W202 by just putting the extractor tube all the way into the dipstick tube until it stopped and it seemed to suck all of it's oil completely out which is why I was confused doing it this way on the W221.

Take the cap and filter off which will make the process work faster. Some Mercedes models you can push the tube all the way down but you don't need to because the dip stick tube is used like a piece of tubing that your system attaches to.
