Help!!! S350 ECU issues
My dad's W221 S350 (2009) which he has owned since brand new, has been slowly falling apart over the last few months. But to get straight to the point:
One year ago, the original ECU failed/got damaged, and he ended up ordering a replacement refurbished unit from the states that was reprogrammed. Fast forward to today, the car wouldn't turn, was towed to the garage. They ran the diagnostics and are saying that the ECU is "getting damaged" again.
The car is old, but my other concern is a deeper underlying issue that the garage is missing, Its possible that the ECU is the issue, but the fact that it keeps "getting damaged" is a concern to me.
The original ECU was a bosch Unit, A-272-153-7391. The replacement ECU, i believe, is A272-153-1592. Now his Garage is saying that its failing and that is the incorrect ECU, and it needs to be replaced by A272-153-5291. Can anyone confirm? I am taking the ECU to the same shop that we bought it from to either repair or replace it.
I know the US never got the W221 S350 (S400 instead) but can anyone confirm the correct ECU number?
And before i spend any more money on that car, i wanted to see if anyone can shed any light on this issue or give me some advice.

Just want to remind all of you that there are just two version of the ECU for M272 and M273 engine event there are many part from Mer Benz: ECU with one can bus and ECU with two can bus.
The ECU 3879 mentined earlier has HW reference A024467340, this ECU has only one can bus and can only be used for W211. For S class W221, it need ECU with 02 can bus and usually this ECU have HW reference A0034467740 and this ECU an be used for both M272 and M273 (just matter of SCN coding) and if you see firmware start with 273 then it for M273 otherwise it for M272.
i often used ECU with HW reference A0034467740, and then using Ktag for data transfer then you can plug and play on your car. For Ktag you need to open ECU box for cable connection, if you don't want to open ECU then you need to do renew process via ECU connector then you can activate it on your car with DAS or SCN coding in case of you have account.

Are you based in the UK?
This is the code for my ecu can you tell if it's single or double can bus please?

Your ECU is for Diesel engine, it completely different compare to M272 or M273 engine then therefore single can bus or double can bus will not a matter because it will not interchangeable to ECU from M272 or M273.
If you want ECU replacement, just purchased a second hand ECU with HW reference A0024460640, renew it with the tools then perform SCN coding, proper firmware will be downloaded based on the VIN.

2009 W164 ML350 | 2003 R230 SL500
can you provide me with compatible part numbers for my 2009 ML350 W164. I also have an ECU issue. ECU # A2721536191. My VIN# is WDC1641861A403773. Also, could you, or anyone here provide me a shortlist of reputable shops that can provide a remanufactured ECU that will be plug and drive? I live all the way in the Philippines so I have no easy access to these shops. Thanks in advance.

There are no "plug and drive" ECU for Mercedes. You need to buy ECU which has been made into a "virgin", that is has all the vehicle specific information (like VIN) cleared. This makes the ECU "like new" for computers to program. Next you need to install it in your car and using DAS or a similar tool you "initialize" it to your car.
For example on eBay there are a few vendors in USA who sell used "virgin" ECU, probably the same in other countries. And if you don't have DAS (Mercedes dealer's tool) you need to find some mechanic locally who has one or an equivalent.
