Unfortunately there may be no newer versions produced. Buying a previously used update disk is useless. Your vehicle requires a unique activation code tied to you vehicle VIN to be entered to load an update. The code is only available from dealers.

You sure about this? I've read many instances of people updating their own W221 DBV based nav system

As of 2010, vehicles came with NTG3.5 version hardware which requires the unique activation code for each vehicle and update disk version and also require a different part number disk than used for 2007 - 2009 vehicles.

2007 - 2009 vehicles do not use an activation code allowing the disk to be used for several vehicles. These vehicles have the NTG3 version navigation hardware.

There was wide spread sharing of map updates for 2007 to 2009 vehicles drived by the cost of $250 per disk. They could have sold a lot more disks if they had a more reasonable cost, possibly $50. BMW charges $137 for two years updates which are issued twice per year.

You stated your vehicle is a 2011. This model year has hardware version NTG3.5 hardware which can only use NTG3.5 navigation disks. Mercedes made the change starting with 2010 vehicles to make it impossible to re-use update disks on multiple vehicles. This forces owners of these vehicles to purchase updates at full price from dealers. You CAN load the disk yourself, BUT you must have the unique unlock code for your specific vehicle which is only available from dealers. The dealer has to enter your vehicle VIN into a Mercedes system which then charges the dealer for it. Dealers can not generate the code without paying Mercedes corporate for it.

No problem loading the latest map update for 2007 vehicle, As a separate issue, the Comand update which needs to be installed by a dealer or someone with a Mercedes DAS computer added features included the display of real time traffic data on the map. The traffic is received from local radio stations and does NOT use Sirius. No paid subscription is involved. Newer vehicles use Sirius traffic which requires a monthly fee. If you currently have traffic data, your vehicle already has the Comand update. Some dealers will deny that the update can be installed. A fair price for installation of the update would be for one hour of shop labor.

Funny... the local dealer here said "we can't do that" and "we don't work on cars that old". A dealer about 45 min was happy to do it and charge me one hour of labor. The Command update is SORELY needed as that current system is a joke. I hope it at least gets to the level a mid 90s GM nav system...
The update will result in the system operating like a 2009 vehicle. If you are curious, download the 2009 owners manual from mbusa.com
Other changes with the update:
Real time traffic is displayed for most freeways on the map-- You can also view detailed descriptions for traffic slowdowns. It can take a few minutes for your vehicle to receive traffic data, be patient.
Estimated arrival time can be displayed on the lower right side of the map
When you approach an entry or exit from a freeway, you will usually see an enlarged picture of it on the right half of the display
At times you will see an indication along the bottom of the display showing which traffic lanes to be on as you approach an off ramp (as an example, if the two right two lanes both allow you to exit, if will show this)
Alternate Birds eye map can be displayed or you can see the original type map display
DVD movies can be watched -- but the display goes blank and only the sound remains once you start moving. In some installations you need to have the parking brake on to see the movie,

Be advised that the actual time for the dealer to perform the update could take several hours if nothing has ever been updated. This will NOT affect your labor charge since all the dealer does is to connect your vehicle to the update system, answer a few questions, and then walk away while the system is updated.
