Alternator and battery charging problems
I bought a remanufactured alternator from Advance Auto after the red battery light appeared. I took it and got the reman installed, bought new agm batteries for both the truck and engine compartment. I got my car back no battery light drove home 45 mins and the light came back on. Yellow ABS messages popped up and the car started losing power. Took the trunk battery to Advance they checked it and said it was really low and the alternator was only putting out 13V engine running and the other battery around the same. I called the dealership and they said I need the 220 amp alternator and I have the 180amp. So I’m asking are those interchangeable or no? Could a fuse in the prefuse box be the culprit? I’m just aggravated right now

180 amp seems light for these cars. Fuses do not cause batteries to die. 12 volt systems are pretty simple, you have to provide the battery with more amperage than the car is consuming or you will end up with a dead battery.

I thought maybe the prefuse box near battery had a bad fuse , that’s stopping the alternator from charging . Maybe me and my father in law will exchange the alternator later today. I’m not paying for that job to be done again
