2007 S550

Car has 143K miles on It.
THoughts? Anything I need to look out for in particular?
Thanks, any input is greatly appreciated.

It looks like the command system has not been updated, no Video option at the top, this also means you wouldn't have the latest maps and you can't install that until you update the command.
Check for leaks around the oil cooler, if the gaskets(2) haven't been changed, they need to, it's time.
Check the temperature control valve at the rear of the engine behind the firewall. If it hasn't been changed, replace it, if it fails, especially during the summer you're engine could overheat.

How much to update the command system?
Car has a salvage title due to Hail Damage, which was professionally repaired, NO Accident, NO Airbag deployment. (Ran the carfax to verify). The car just had recently the following replaced:
Air Matic Compressor, Alternator and Battery, Drive Belts, Pulley and Tensioner, Air and Cabin Filters, Windshield Washer Pump, Camshaft Adjuster Solenoids. I have seen receipts in the amount of 3800 bucks in the last 10 months.
I will be able to score this car for 8.5K, is that a good deal? I would think so, but would appreciate some input.
Thanks in advance.

The Engine Serial Number is 301 101927, so I should be fine.
Other than that, price seems to be ok for the vehicle as I have described?
Thanks

All is in order and the car drove very nicely, sure love that V8 power compared to what I had. Two things are wrong with it:
- Front Center Armrest Console lid is broken, does not latch properly and needs to be replaced.
- Driver Side Passenger Rear Window screen does not work.
Hope both are not too difficult to address. Other than that, all is in good shape.

With all the work that was just put into the car, I am hoping that there will not be much to take care of in the near future. I do have a good Indy Shop and I also take care of things myself.

EasyPhil has a DAS system that will (in most cases) find anything that is wrong with car, after that you can replace/repair the damaged stuff yourself. If you can source the parts yourself, do some labor etc. etc. you will find that the costs of maintaining an S-Class is possible. Other option is having a VERY GOOD indy, preferably with a DAS system and one that doesn't charge you big amounts of labor/hour.
Try to understand these things, i have learned a lot about this car (and others) and although i'm not in the USA and do not drive a petrol car there is still (too) much to learn!!

P:S: Sorry guys but things like this i hate to see in a forum.....

I had no intentions of having to escalate this into something I would regret, so if it did come across that way, everyone please accept my apologies.
I do understand what everyone is saying, and I do understand that maintaining an 8-cylinder motor is going to be more intensive than a 6 cylinder.
What I however do not understand, is why this vehicle will be so much different compared to my 2003 E Class? I do not have a code reader for that and if anything goes wrong, this vehicle as well will need to go either to an Indy or the dealership.
Why is the S-Class so different from the E-Class? Is the S-Class not as reliable? I did do my homework and I did read up on the w221 platform, and it appears to be a good vehicle with exception of some known issues, which all cars do have. I had to do some extensive maintenance on my w211 as well, so the question again, what is so much different between the E-class and the S-Class, other than the 8 cylinder vs the 6 cylinder engine?
I do not have a DAS ystem, nor am I planning on purchasing one, but I have good Indy options here in the area, and I am also somewhat mechanically and technically inclined, to tackle some of the minor issues myself.
It would be nice to get some kind of a Warm & Cozy feeling, that the purchase of this vehicle was not the biggest mistake I've ever made.
Again thanks very much for everyone's input, no intentions of making anything going anywhere, where I would have to have regrets, but I'm reaching out to you guys, as I never owned an S class in the past.
Thanks very much, good day to you all.
P/S: What I do not like on forums, is that mostly it sounds that there's always a negative vibe, rather than an encouraging positive input on someone's issues, questions, or concerns.

Try these on for size.

The problem on working on these cars is not the "doing the work" it differs not from any other car !! It's just that there is so much electrical stuff involved that in order to get to the right part you almost need the full schematics. The more the options the more something will go wrong. You mentioned that the right shade is not working: it can be a simple wire that is broken, a motor that doesn't work or a SAM that doesn't send a signal. In order to find this you have to hook it up to a reader (preferably DAS/STAR) and this is just an assumption.
There are plenty of threads here with all kind of problems and in many are the solutions too.
I too have owned a E-class (W210) and a C-class (W202) and as soon as i could afford an S-class i was rendered. Tried a BMW 7 series (e65) and although it is still running WITHOUT any problems i prefer MB.
So the difference between the (old) E-class and the S-class is just the amount of possible electronic stuff that can go (very) wrong. One of the biggest problems (as it seems) is the ABC and the air suspension, always very expensive to solve. I recently had a problem with oil consumption (might be sorted, still testing) and there were NO codes on DAS, after further inspection there was a puncture in the intercooler hose, stupid but true....... No missing HP or other problem just consuming oil. Since the repair i have driven about 5000km without issues (used to do about 3000km and it was asking for oil) for the rest in 12000Km i have driven this car i just needed to give it new "shoes".... Reliable? For me YES. But although the car/electronics/ comfort is the same mine is a diesel engine and it seems that all the S-class in the USA are petrol, that gives you other (electrical) problems that you can find in the threads.
Sorry for the long post, i'm sure you will be helped in what you need, just be patient and read a lot.....

I hope this car will treat my right, and that I will be able to deal with whatever may come my way with the help of this forum.

With exception of the mentioned Center armrest and the rear door shade, everything works perfectly, all gadgets and buttons, everything illuminates correctly at night.
The center armrest button on the drivers side seems to be non-locking. The lock will therefore not engage/release with the button sonit no longer latches and properly closes the lid.
I am wondering if any of you may have an idea as to how to fix this? I am thinking that one can most likely not purchase that lock itself, so possibly a junk yard may be my only option? Thanks.
