E-Brake power unit replacement 221 S550
The power e-brake in our S 550 has failed, the computer says the dash switch is bad. Had a new switch installed but the problem was not solved, so it must be the actuator it self, new units from the dealer are around $1000.00. I was able to locate and purchase a used unit, but now I am told that it has to be installed by a dealer as it has to be matched with the MB factory computer much like the vehicles electronic entry/start key. This doesn't sound right to me, I can understand the car key or the system control computer but not a parking brake, is there anyone out there that can chime in on this, your help would be appreciated.
