Display screen dead

Dear All,
I would really appreciate if someone could kindly help me.
The central display screen of my Mercedes S350 Reg 2010, suddenly stopped working and remains completely black. I got it checked by a competent car electrician who could not find any fault. Then I got it diagnosed by a Mercedes independent agent in Ipswich and they also could not identify any problems after an extensive Diagnostic procedure. I am attaching diagnostic report with this post. I would really appreciate if someone suggest me what to do or advise me what could be the potential problem. The independent Mercedes specialist who spent almost five and half hours on it, told me that there is no code showing up on diagnosis. There might be a potential problem with the screen itself or in the central command unit which serves the screen. However this cannot be checked unless we go step-by-step, first by replacing the screen followed by the replacement of central command unit. He said that I should be looking around 1000 to 3000 £ .
Any ideas please?.
Thanks

Diagnosis report

Get a used display on eBay? 150$-500$. If the guy used an oscilloscope and observed data on the cable then the display should be toast...if he looked at video data that is.

Personally, I would swap it out with the android head unit that's out for the W221. If the COMAND is toast you're looking at 500-1000...also on ebay. However, I would have that repaired instead.

Display screen

Thanks a lot
I shall try to find it and update.
Do you think that problem could also be there in command unit. Is there any way to diagnose the problem more precisely. I wonder that why this has to be in this way of “diagnosis of exclusion” that is to check it step by step and to keep excluding the potential problems.
Kind regards.

I think the challenge is that you have no display on your COMAND screen and all the diagnostics thus far have indicated that the COMAND is 'ok'. There is no way to be certain without a display to confirm that.. It is possible that after replacing the display you might still have an issue with the COMAND unit. If the backlight in the display is just kaput, there are few tests that would isolate that aside from a 'swap and see'.

If the back light is out you could shine a bright flashlight on the display. You should still be able to see stuff.

Yes it's definitely possible that the comand has an issue with the video transmission part of it...which wouldn't show up in the diagnostics. You could swap it out or take it to a competent shop to take a look at it. Are any of the functions working like radio and music? Do you see track names or nav data in the instrument cluster?

Thanks indeed.
I don’t know what would be the final outcome but things are getting clearer, at least theoretically. I am going to take the car to workshop. I really appreciate your help and shall update you guys when I get ascertained about it within next two to three days.

Dear M34
The screen is completely black. Nothing showing up. No radio or Navigation. The joy stick moves freely.
Car heater fan etc can be operated through buttons but not possible through screen display.
phone cannot be connected through blue tooth. Interface not working.

If you see nothing on the instrument cluster display that would come from the comand then it's unrelated to your comand display. It means the comand is not sending anything at all. However all this should've been diagnosed so I would stick with their recommendations.

Mercedes S350 Comand Unit

Thanks to all those who took time to reply to my post about faulty display screen. I thought I should give some feedback.
I got it diagnosed by Mercedes followed by an independent Merc specialist who were not sure about the problem. Merc diagnostics came up with a faulty Command unit and advised me to either go for a used comand unit or try to get it repaired. I stilll don’t know what would be the final outcome but personally would advise against going for independent agents. I learnt this lesson the hard way!
On their (Merc) advice, I am going to see a repairer who is near London.
Any thoughts on second hand or repair would be much appreciated. Additionally, is there any possibility to upgrade to a new version of comand unit, since I am paying around 1200 £ anyways?
Also if someone is aware about any good repairer in Colchester/ Ipswich area?
Thanks again
