2007 or 2010?!?
Good morning all! Trying to decide on purchasing with a 2010 S550 with 110k miles for $17k or a 2007/8 S550 with around 60k miles for $14k. Both have nice, extensive dealer service history and are in excellent condition. Thoughts?

Other than updated parts and features, they are basically the same car. Buy the cheaper one and save the cash for repairs. You'll get a lot more mileage out of the 2007 for less $$ if you take care of it.

Wow, no one here has warned him about the faulty 2007 balance shaft?!! Run like hell from the 2007 unless you can check the engine number and make sure the one you're buying doesn't have this defective metal gear I am talking about.
Here is how you check:
1. Get the VIN #.
2. Go to this website:
https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Mercedes-Benz
3. Put VIN # in the search box and hit "Decode".
4. Scroll down until you see "Engine no."
5. Write down the first 3 digits after the M (either 272 or 273) and the last 6 digits.
6. Go to this website:
http://www.mercedesmedic.com/check-m...y-vin-m272273/
7. Scroll down to where it says:
Mercedes-Benz with the improved parts have engine serial numbers that are higher than:
9. If your numbers are lower, the car has the faulty parts.
10. If your numbers are higher, then you're good and the car has the better parts.
Good luck!

Buy the newest one you can afford. The 07 looks very dated compared to the 10 and up. the tt motor from 12-13 is the real way to go.

So you think the updated headlights and LED tails make an '07 look VERY dated? What else am I missing?
Most would not even notice the difference if they are not MB W221 enthusiasts.

I am also looking into 2010 S550's. We have a 2010 GL450 and love it so I figured I'd match it. My wife drives the GL but i'm not much of an SUV kinda guy.
I'm looking at trading my 2014 Impala LTZ for an S550. What maintenance items should I look for on something with 80 - 100k+ miles? I know I could just look at the maintenance manual and compare that with maybe KBB records. But, as I've learned with our GL, there are quirks like air shock replacements that like to fail on certain models and should be replaced.
Is there another model year that I should look at? If so, why?

Personally yes i do. Still great looking car but at this point it looks dated. That said the 07 tail lights were of of my favorite tail lights ever. but side to side very dated and non led looking.

I upgraded the tails to LED for 350 bucks on mine and I by far do not believe the car to look dated. MAYBE side by side, ......... but when will one look at these cars side by side?
I am hard pressed to see any W221 in my area, so far I have seen 2 on my daily commute.

Girlfriend has a 2012 S550 with airmatic. I have a 2008 with ABC. ABC is awesome...
The 2012 is considerably quicker and sportier with the tt engine and gets WAY better gas mileage but it sounds like a diesel and not as smooth as the NA V8. I just don’t like rolling on and off turbo for stop and go driving.

Sorry, but I disagree with you, as what you pointed out is not worth 70K miles more and $3k purchasing price difference to me.

Is there anything to spot on a VMI that would indicate the gear has been replaced....I...errr..a friend is looking at a 2007 with an impacted engine #.
