Information on the S550 2007-2013

New Member Needs Help
I am a new member and I am looking for some information from experts such as yourselves on the S550 07 to 13. I like this series of S550's because of the body style. I am assuming that this style has the flared out front and rear wheel look I want. That being correct the questions I have are what is the general Info. on the mechanical reliability of this vehicle. Are there any constant mechanical or electrical problems with this model. Also, is the drive smooth and more importantly is the turning Easy and precise. I have called many dealers in my area of Florida who all do not have any of these cars for me to test drive. They all say that they are all too old and when they get any they go to auction? My Final question is how can I contact these Auction people so that I can buy this car directly and save some money.

There are plenty listed on Autotrader, cars.com, etc. I don't know where in FL you live, but I just did a quick search of listings within 100 miles of Orlando and found over two dozen for sale on Autotrader, 24 on cars.com (there is probably some overlap). W221 S550s are not that rare, you should be able to find what you're looking for.
Also not sure about your location, but here in NE you need to have a dealer license to get into the auto auction.
You'd be a lot happier with an S600, though. I know of a really nice metallic gray one for sale... pretty well sorted out.

I really do love this car. But, I bought it with the intention of selling my F150 and keeping just this. I'm a full time telecommuter, and drive maybe 5-6K miles per year. I really can't justify having two vehicles (plus my wife's XC60) sitting around sucking up maintenance and insurance dollars. There's a restoration project taking up a garage bay, so I can't even park them both inside this winter. And, much to my surprise, even though my wife likes the Mercedes also and we always take it when we're going anywhere, she's (surprisingly) vehemently opposed to selling the truck.
I've sunk several thousand into addressing all the little things that were wrong when I bought it (there's a lesson to be learned about a proper PPI and service plan, kids). It is now the car I thought I was getting when I bought it a few moths and a few thousand miles ago. I figure I can sell it now, and in a couple of years when the truck hits 10 years old maybe I can give it another shot and pick up a newer AMG or something.
