Crankshaft position sensor - where's Waldo?

The car is an '07 S600. I found and replaced the camshaft position sensor; no problem there. But for the last three days, when ive been out doimg other work on the car, I've been trying to find the silly crankshaft position sensor. Of course I've looked at the WIS amd seen the steps to replace it. I've had no luck so far locating it. Anyone got a pointer, picture, secret decoder ring?

I have... and the other side... no joy so far. It must be hidden by a hose or cabnle or something, which mames me wonder whether, if and when i finally DO find it, if I'll be able to get a wrench anywhere near it.

sigh...

It's on the bell housing behind the block. As looking from in front at the 1pm position so approach from the left side of the car, put your finger on the rear inside corner of the left intercooler and then move your finger towards the windshield and down. There is a panel on the CL that is removable here and will help you find it more easily.

I found it one of the easier jobs as you don't really need to remove anything to get to it.. just that panel.

This picture is from an M120 but it's in the same place on our engines.

FINALLY found it. And it's definitely not on the left side.

The WIS says to un-bolt and suspend the right side intercooler to get to it. I kept looking on the right side, then the left side, and we actually found it on or very close to the centerline. My son actually spotted it, by moving a couple of coolant pipes and cables out of the way. And while you can sort of see the sensor (or at least the top of the connector) from the left side, the bolt is on the right, so (just like Mercedes-Benz says) you've got to go at it from the right side to get it out. It's tight; we're going to have to use two long 1/4 drive extensions to get a socket down there to get it out. With luck I won't drop the bolt through the engine bay, but at least we finally found it.

And, last night I managed to get it replaced. I had to cobble together a 1/4" drive extension about 18" long to get the bolt out. Before I could get to the bolt, I had to get the electrical connector off because the genius who designed it used a 90 degree connector that blocks access to the bolt until you remove the connector. THAT took a spring hook taped to the end of the longest screwdriver I own to pull the little wedge lock on the connector up -- can't do it with bare hands, and it's buried so far down you can't get at it with any normal tool.

So, mystery solved, part replaced, and Waldo is right there, in the middle of that huge mass of people at the beach! Geez, look at how crowded it is... they're all gonna die of COVID-19.
