No Acceleration!!

I have a 2007 S600 with 50,000 miles. Twice in a week this has happened: I come out of a turn or exiting a parking lot onto the main road and a little after I take off, there's no more acceleration despite my foot pressing on the gas pedal. After about 5 seconds of panic(because cars are behind me) and pumping the gas pedal to get this car to go before I get hit, the car finally accelerates. In one of those instances, I had my foot about halfway down and all of a sudden, it kicked in and with that V12, well...you know the rest. It's random and not every day. It's usually around mid day after I've driven the car a few miles in some heavy Atlanta traffic on a hot day.

Does the engine RPM increase while it's making up its mind, or not?
If yes: Transmission issue.
If no: My guess would be a bad accelerator pedal module (P/N A2203000104).

But don't take my word for it, I'm just SGOTI. I do drive an '07 S600 with about 55K miles, though.

I found the problem: bad ABS/wheel speed sensor. When it happens, the yellow warning triangle blinks and I cant accelerate or there’s a lot of hesitation. That error, ABS/ESP warning would pop up. The acceleration issue never happens as long as that ABS/ESP light is on. So the next time I drove, there was no error and the issue started again. So I manually turned off the ESP. Problem of not accelerating didn’t occur. Had a diagnostic done. The right front wheel sensor came back. It all makes sense now. Getting it replaced tomorrow.

Resurrecting this thread: I have the same issue. No yellow triangle or DSC. Drives fine, I come to a stop (lets say at a traffic light), when its time to go, no response. RPMs do not increase and car doesn't go. I turn off the car, turn back on and put in gear, it starts to go. Rinse & Repeat.

Sidebar: If part number A2203000104 was bad, would there be a code somewhere that would indicate the issue? I plan to put it on SDS tomorrow.

We get reports of bad speed sensors pretty frequently. And replacing the sensor is the right solution. I would comment though that it is always best to replace speed sensors in pairs. My crystal ball says you will have the opposite sensor crap out on you within 120 days. Probably when you are on the side of a mountain in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday afternoon.

Is there a way to diagnose a speed sensor over a pedal?

not directly related to the ABS speed sensor, but related to the in pairs theory.

About 20,000KM ago I had the Suspension Acceleration sensor on the front right axle fail, e.g. malfunction, stiff ride, basically the adaptive damping ADS went into failsafe. Told the dealer to replace both just in case, he says no, just replace the one. 10,000KM ago the 2nd one failed. Dealer replaced at no cost as I had asked them to do both then, and they refused

Stuff like this likes to fail in pairs, remember these are not W126's, they are designed to fail.

Also would advise to replace all of them at some point (if one of these fails on my car, I will replace all 4) just on account of the following:

I have a BMW 750i E38 '98 vintage, on which all 4 ABS sensors literally fused to the spindles. I had to replace 2 spindles as the ABS sensors broke into parts and fell into the bearing, on the ring, etc, very ugly. As these cars age, the plastic will start to fuse, deteriorate in such a way that it will be impossible to replace easily later on.

I plan to keep mine for at least 10 more years so as we reach the point where they get old, stuff like this will be replaced proactively before it becomes "one with the car" if you know what I mean..

Totally agree. In my opinion, buy the silly second sensor and put it in the trunk for just in case. Or am I being obsessive?

E sure you keep a crankshaft position sensor with the spare ABS sensor. Tools to replace as well. CPS will leave you stranded.
