Good Upgrade?
Anyone upgrade? Is it a good upgrade? Worth the money?
I have a chance to trade my MINT 08 for a 2013 with 50K. They want $35,000 minus what I would get for my car. (About $8,000). Any thoughts
w221 facelift was 2009 and the only real change was the comand looks the same but can do music & calls like a grown up without extras and on the right screen for music, but the later comand dies 10 times as often
w222 totally different car came out in 2012
so for such serious money you should be on the 222 (which is now just come to end of life, hence they want shot before the current one comes out any time now)
either way its OLD and will cost u lots one day - if its got disctronic plus with steering assist (which was also available on very last 221) and u fancy a gamble down to you
it may be low miles, it may be like new, but no dealer will touch it now the new one is just out... and overnight its value drops by half
and of course its really 2 models out of data as their was a facelift in the 222

if it makes you feel $25 k better, go for it. I’m not so certain you’ll experience lower maintenance/repair costs.

The price you were quoted seems very high at over $40000 with the trade-in unless it is very low mileage car.
I believe W222 came out in 2014 here in US market so 2013 is the last year for W221.
Later models body styling is ugly in rear. 221 is the last decent looking S-class.

I was looking at it slightly differently; is it worth $25,000 to go from 160K to 50K even though an only slightly better car..
It make me wonder; when do you get rid of a car. My 08 sitting outside is perfect. Today. What happens tomorrow?

with improvements in materials design and lubrication things could easily do 30 years.... but the car manufacturer won't be in business, so the accountants got involved with crooked engineers and they have spent the last 20 years understanding exactly how to design stuff to die. It seems Mercedes with the w220 era were almost there... but so far ahead of the game it damaged their reputation as their failing stood out. Instead of reversing out, they just spend the savings on a longer term marketing objective, whilst the rest caught up... and then as the banks and other financial thieves seem to be winning and no one minds, the car manufacturers went the same route at a vastly increased pace.
So in todays world lease it for 3 years then throw in a skip, its got 5 years max if it comes out of Germany....
affordable to keep on the road goes roughly like this from design date, not when sold
1990 to 2000 rust and lack of maintenance wins (how many can you find?)
2000 to 2005 with maint should get 20 years (so long at its not from Stuttgart)
2007 to 2011 10 - 15 years
2012 to 2015 8 years
2019 5 years
