first timer, need buying advice
I"m considering a 2012 s550 w/107k, from a auction buying dealer ( like most of them out there). I"m asking 2 things: 1- extended warranties....most I'm seeing are insanely priced for well known companies ( quoted 11K yikes) and cheaper ones ($2-3K) with bad reviews on Better Business Bureau website. Found one from my credit union ( whom normally only associate with reputable companies) and they use Route 66 company for $1800 with 36 month/36,000 miles coverage w/no deductible, nationwide coverage etc, but limits the total payout of $5k. Is that even worth it or is it wiser to just put aside money for the worst? If i did purchase it, and the worst happened, it would save me over 50% but it only covers main powertrain items, as you could imagine,
2- test drive was superb, nothing felt out of sorts and all electrical worked ( that I knew how to activate) and carfax report is good, recently had new tires put on and engine/tranny mounts replaced. I want this one b/c it has ALL the options that I have hoped for ( loaded except for 20" rims, which I"m glad it doesn't have, and no Pano roof). The other ones i've found , nationwide (USA) haven't had all items. I know these cars are a risk....no car note on it as I'll pay cash, have some cash put away just in case too. I've considered a newer model w222 but haven' found one with everything either...and its much more money. I just like the exterior styling of the w221. This would a 5-6,000 mile a year car ( not even close to a daily driver). Would you advise only looking for a lower mileage car?
thanks for all insights offered.
ps carafe showed a minor left front corner bumper bash, seller pointed it out too, looks fine
