goodness knows how anyone drives on 19" or bigger.... the ride on 18" vs 17" is 4 times worse than it was, if anything its slower round corners as these just shudder and it bounces across the road on anything other than a perfect surface (using merc OEM tyres for the merc OEM option 18" wheels)

I certainly have to give this consideration on my next purchase. Lookin "kewl" has moved down on my list of concerns as I get older.

I was wrong about the cost of the wheel repair, btw. It was 200 total for straightening, strip, and repaint.

Odd thing is, my wife’s Volvo had either 19 or 20 inch wheels and we never had problems with it. Probably because it was 800# lighter. It did ride a bit rough though, I thought.

I’m dodging potholes and stuff a little more now. But, at least now I can put the stupid spare on.

My wheel is just a tad out of shape. I can feel it at 70 mph with a very small vibration. I wonder if it makes sense to send my wheel to the guy who did yours? $200 seems like a good deal to me. Can you give me a referral? Much better than $860 for another new one!!

Sure:

Wheel Repair | Omaha | Wheel Tech Inc

Having never had a wheel repaired before, I can't tell you if these guys are unusually good or cheap or what. I do know the wheel they did for me is fine up to 110 or more... and looks like brand new. The color match is perfect.

Changing tires from the Yokohamas the Denver area dealers put on the 20 inch wheels, to a Continental, has definitely helped with the frequency of tire replacement. For whatever reason, they don't blow out the sidewall and tread as much.
