- Does audio from all sources work?
- Does fading work?
- Equalizer works, as you mentioned.
- Does 3D sound/Logic7 work?
Maybe we can figure out the volume control with adapters/converters etc.

GF82.85-P-0003-06SX Cockpit Management and Data System (COMAND) Volume/tone setting
General
The functionalities for volume and sound settings as well as for amplification of audio signals run in the audio tuner control unit (N93/1) before the audio signals are output via the speaker system.
The volume and sound settings are shown on the COMAND display (A40/8).
The volume and sound settings are carried out via the front central operating unit (A40/9) and the multifunction steering wheel (MFL).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume setting
The volume can be adjusted as follows:
With the buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) of the MFL
With the volume control (A40/9r1) on the front central operating unit
Changing the volume of an audio source has an identical effect on all other audio sources. The volume is also jointly regulated within the service sources in the same manner.
Volume setting of the voice output during navigation, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (494) USA version or code (498) Japan version
The volume of voice output for navigation can be changed during voice output. A certain difference in volume (adjustable in the "System settings" menu) between the audio signal and the voice output is maintained automatically. This means that voice output remains audible even in the case of loud audio output.
Speed-dependent volume control (SDV) and Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO)
The volume is adapted to the noise level in the passenger compartment by GAL and the automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation feature DRO. In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input to the sound amplifier / microphone (B25/6) are used as a relationship indicator.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tone setting
The sound settings can be selected in the "Sound" menu in the function bar of the COMAND display using the turn/push control (A40/9s11).
The audio tuner control unit enables sound settings to be made manually for each audio source. The tone setting selected for the radio mode simultaneously applies to the traffic radio announcement.
When changing the sound emphasis (balance, fader), the ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes.
Sound setting of the voice output during navigation, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (494) USA version or code (498) Japan version
The sound settings of the voice output during navigation can be individually adjusted. Adjustments which have been selected for the voice output during navigation also influence the sound settings of the voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sound settings in rear, with code (864) Rear entertainment system
Selecting the "Rear" menu allows audio signals to be output in the rear of the vehicle interior via the speaker system fitted in the vehicle. In addition, the following preset tone settings can be called up:
pop
classical
Language
Standard
Ambient
Voice optimized
Driver optimized

Nice job Kookiemuncer. I don't understand why so many users were hating on you for wanting to try this... You tried something new, it worked reasonably well, and then you reported back the results to the community to benefit everyone. These forums would be better if there were more people like you here.
Cheers!

No one was “hating” anyone, and nobody claimed to know for certain. A few people (myself among them) observed that the amplifier from a Hyundai probably would not be a drop-in replacement for the M-B amp. And if I might be so indelicate as to point it out, well… it isn’t. Most people would probably consider having a volume control and the ability to listen to the radio to be rather essential functions. But if you’re happy with it, then that’s really all that matters to you, so I’m happy you’ve had a good outcome.

It is plug and play i figured out the volume control
now its 100% working
I did that for people that are on the budget or just tired of dropping money on original amp every year like I did...

they are both fakra connectors - the colours mean something (see table) and each colour is handed and will only fit the right male / female - unless water blue which is universal fitment
Black should be an antenna - can't remember if it has two antenna...
Curry is the other and I guess is incoming signal from another device - u can work out the fitment legs from your picture
Mercedes don't follow the list exactly on another tuner Europe DAB antenna uses the Claret one
.

Haha yes, my Korean friends would object to being called Chinese for sure.
That being said this won’t work. Even if the hardware is the same, which you won’t know until you take both apart and compare all the chips involved, the software definitely won’t be the same. Just like already mentioned, the sound is actually a small part of these systems. Sure, you could build a converter that could translate signals between the 2 but I don’t see any incentives to even try.

Oh yes how will I ever sleep at night
It’s good that we now know that 2 visually different products apparently perform the exact same function. We can now all save ungodly amounts of cash when our amps fail and they all do. Mine is from 2008.
I wonder what else we can retrofit? ABC pump maybe? That fails all the time too from what I hear.

Purchased the hyundai amp, so I'm anticipating the volume control issue like you had. What wire am I looking to tap into? Is it just a purple/black plug? Where does it go in the hyundai amp?

Ok hoping someone else can help here.
op seems to have ghosted us.
Everything was exactly plug and play BUT
There us now no volume control (as OP stated)
And no antenna pickup of stations.
Here is the picture OP posted and is the MB amplifier.
Original MB amp
Here is the replacement Hyundai.
i plugged in the black/purple (assumedly the OP did not)
And the yellow/curry?
The plug on the far right of MB does not exist on the hyundai
Hyundai amplifier with MB wiring plugged in
They all go towards this device here
If anyone can solve the no volume control/no antenna pickup you will be a LEGEND..
I bought the Hyundai amplifier from ebay for 80$ USD.
Mb was 800-1000.
and a rebuild was 400 with core.
So if you're good with wiring HMU and we can solve this hopefully!

I am also still waiting for connection instructions that allow all the stock functions to work. Diagram for the less tech savvy of us? What are the 2 plugs on the right for?

the likelihood is this can never work so its utterly stupid to fit it
in your home hifi each sound "source" (Radio tuner, Sat radio, DAB radio, TV, CD, DVD, USB file, Streamed info etc,) sends a pathetic signal to a switch box used to control each signal the power amp gets to see. It also operates as the volume control that can wind up and down the really low signal chosen as the source (this is the pre amp). So we get noise source, to a pre amp with vol change, to a power amp.
but what Merc did on this car is a little strange... the bit in the boot is both a tuner and an amp... and where did they hide the volume control for the radio bit. The comand unit is the switch box, so also likely its also the real volume knob (aka the comand is the pre amp ?) but as the amp is also a source its all odd.
I suspect the radio tuner element (of the amp in the boot) pushes the Radio signal to the comand, the comand controls its volume and then a totally separate element of the amp just operates as a power amp for whatever volume modulated signal the comand feeds it
Could it be the way the Hyundai radio tuner signal hit the comand being so different the comand has a melt down and all vol control is killed - doesn't sound right but then nothing does...

how about....so all the "noise" goes around ALL the networked components via the MOST (orange fibre link loop) so the Hyundai units MOST loses the Mercedes vols signals and it doesn't work ?
all the other connections
1) power to the amp section,
2) signals to all the speakers,
3) the two antenna connections are the Fakkra sockets,
4) the three wires by the MOST are power to the control section plus minus and a signal to tell the amp to wake and do something

anyone brave ?
the wire connections by the MOST multiplug is 4 PIN
the plus minus wires on the MOST multiplug must be right...
the signal wire MIGHT be on a the other pin for Hyundai ? would be worth trying to understand what info that third wires has
