CEL P0060 intermittent

Took my 2010 CL550 4Matic an hour into Pennsylvania last night, about 10 minutes from my destination CEL came on(not flashing) when I arrived I turned the car off and turned it back on and it remained. Turned it off, did my business, and drove the hour back home with it on. This morning I turned the car on and went for a drive and after about an hour it turned off and hasn’t returned..any advice?

CAT lambda sensors have heaters in them, its quite common they fail, not looked up that code but resistance ….. sound like it's dirty or failing.... you shouldn't drive with the light on....

drive harder, use better fuel and or replace it

CAT sensors wear out, its a tough life being cooked at 400 to 800C for 10 years / 100k miles and then sometime washed in petrol to boot

if it seems to run without a misfire and the garage is about 10 miles away, drive there so they can replace them.... get them checked out, and if at fault replaced.

will be about $100 each and 25 mins each to fit- not looked some cars have 4, one to do the work on each side of the V and another to check the first one did its job - the second lazy one is cheaper as it only checks the other did its real job and so its a simpler sensor

if it has 4 a main dealer will want stupid money equates to about $1500, 250 diagnosis, 225 each and 2 hours labour.....

if you change just the offending one it should be $200 fitted at an indepenant garage (I guess)

you can do at home, but not much fun underneath especially with silly undertrays in the way and they tend to be very tight to undo... the wires just unplug.... they are plug and play devices and the car should get over itself.... but wiping the error code is the right way

Resistance points to either the heating element or the sensing circuit changed. It could be just a bad connection in the harness that raises resistance up that the now works better as light gas not come back. Easy repair could be just to disconnect/connect sensor harnesses for a few time to rub oxidation of the pins.

I just ordered a new sensor. Thank you for recommending to unplug it a few times, that’s not a bad idea. Should I try that first or just replace it now that it will be here tomorrow
