on the early car's pre 2007 the camera has nothing to do with it. its only for night vision
pre safe is standard with disctronic plus - are you sure you have the radar cruise (will have a shiny black bit in the front grill 5" x 5")
all other cars get distronic (conventional cruise control) and the grill is conventional all over

what is BSD ?

BSD usually means Blind Spot Detection. Very common in the US, I don’t know about anywhere else. My 2007 has pre-safe braking (which I keep disabled), but no blind spot detection. That didn’t appear for a couple of years. Pre-safe will flash a red light and b!tch if it thinks you’re closing too fast, which I’ve seen several times. If it’s convinced a crash is imminent it will brake for you, tighten the seatbelts, close windows, etc. It’s all in the owners manual. It’s a little too conservative for me, so I keep it turned off. Same with the nearly identical feature in my wife last two vehicles. Normal city driving becomes like driving with your grandmother in the front seat with you. “You’re going too fast! You’re going to hit that guy! Watch out, there’s a lane closed ahead!!”

What do you mean “all other cars get Distronic (conventional cruise control)”.

By my understanding if it is called Distronic or Distronic Plus it includes the radar sensor in the front middle of the car. I believe Distronic was the name of the system when it did not stop the car yet. After stopping was added the “Plus” was added in the name.

may be that a bad statement - I'm sure I've read Mercedes name for any cruise control is distronic - conventional stuff it maintains a set speed and once ESP rocked up can brake to stop it over speeding downhill

as you point out there was optional radar cruise on the w220 or w211 that can adapt speed to traffic in front called distronic but it gave up at slow speed as it couldn't cope (and possible I'm muddled about name above)

a very rare and very expensive option that came out with w221 was distronic plus - this adds three radars at the front allowing the old radar functionality of the option on the w220 but the extra two radars allowed it to drive in town and cope with other movements, thus it can cruise to a complete stop and if less then a few milliseconds pick up speed all on its own when traffic clears
