Exclamation Navigation malfunction

My ‘08 221 has been as of lately not showing my true vehicle position on the map. The map will be the city I’m in but the icon isn’t keeping up with my true position….any remedies?

not a common issue on a w221, but the GPS antenna is a designed to fail item on most Mercs,

You should be able to toggle the display to show GPS coordinates (rather than time of arrival it may be on if you had the major update - giving traffic info and 3d mapping - AKA Bird's Eye view) if these are gibberish it might be a dead GPS antenna

If you have silly glass (pink IR tint) it will be more fun , but the std screen still has a blank space at the bottom middle of the front screen to retrofit nav antenna on budget ones... you can buy a flee bay £15 dollar one and plug it in and bury under the dash

I will check on this, I thought the GPS antenna was in that little cone on the top of the roof at the back, live and learn. Thanks.

I believe the S class GPS antenna where fitted from the factory is in the shark fin on the roof....

its a hell of a job to reach - think 6hrs labour and lots of money for the part and the roof lining will likely be trashed in to the bargain....
what I said was to retrofit (or in your case repair) u might want to try a cheap one under the dash

Can we stick to possible solutions or just answers to questions without the doom and gloom regarding Mercedes build quality. These cars are about 13 years old at this point and some failures are expected. No, a GPS antenna is not designed to fail. If it does fail, it's probably from water ingress due to old rubber seals, or other small electronic components reaching their EOL.

These cars are chock full of electronics and some will fail simply because of the harsh conditions they're subject to. Having them last 10 years is a win in my book, and not indicative of any design issues. Yes, Mercedes makes mistakes, like any other car manufacturer, but if anything, these cars are built way better than your average car, and way more complex.

In this case I would check the antenna amplifier which should be in the trunk.

Maybe that has been your experience but I doubt it's the norm. I have owned quite a few of them with no problems at all. I am still keeping my CLK from 2004 that also has 0 "designed to fail" issues so far.

This constant negativity, while entertaining, is counter productive. Why bother with a car that you feel so strongly about

It stopped being entertaining quite some time ago, if you ask me (which nobody did, I know).
