1997 Mercedes SL320

Engine tapping at start

I have a 2012 S550 that taps when I start it. After 2-3 minutes of idling it goes away. It started about a month ago and I’m concerned as I now it’s not good to hear engine tapping.
Any ideas??

It could be a variety of things. You should post a video.

2012 S550

Same thing with mine. It could be the cam adjusters.

If within affected range depending on engine # could be check valves and/or chain tensioners.
