S550 Media Interface

S550 Media Interface
I bought a 2009 S550 which falls just short of having a media interface apparently. I have the aux option on the radio with rca jacks in the glove box. The ipod integration kit is impossible to find apparently. My question is can the media interface be plugged into the 2009 and will it work or what's missing? What's the best way to get Bluetooth audio streaming capabilities? I know you can change to an android headunit, but I'm sceptical and I don't like the look of the layout on most of them. I could go for a newer car, but this one is highly optioned and it's optioned perfect really for what I want it for.

There are Bluetooth devices that you can plug into your rca jacks then you can connect your phone to it and you can stream music from your phone, check Amazon.

its is NOT a radio - the joyeauto is a add-on that provides BT phone calls, BT music streaming and if you are strange the modern silly way to view the phone screen on the car and interact with it... AKA enhanced spyware capability so they can track you more easily
everything on the car remains using genuine merc wires, merc parts and merc functionality

The unit that Botus above suggests is sweet, albeit kinda pricy.
I had the same issue with 2013 S550 and went with something suggested here (there is a thread I started). I forget the name of it, was around 70 bucks and unfortunately doesn't work very well.

pricey - its a bargain of the century - if you search for an ipod kit for a few years and need the BT phone puck - you'll be down $500-600 and then if you want the BT gadget to go on the ipod kit $600-800

I am really interested int he JOYAUTO product.
How does it work, does it sit inline with the existing COMAND unit.
I have a 2007 UK spec S500 with NTG3, if I install this can you switch back to the OEM setting for seat and AC control etc, how does this work?

Yes, with the BT connected to the RCA cables you will not see on the instrument cluster what is playing but attaching the Mercedes BT puck under the arm rest will show you everything related to the phone ( calls, phone numbers, etc), at least here in the US.

2013 S550
This thing right here works just as good as Tune2Air for around 15 bucks. It also has a button to switch from bluetooth to USB mode, so you can use a thumb drive in the USB end of it to play music directly.

the rectangular small media socket you have in the glove box is only on facelift cars with that option package - if you have this and live in America your maps are dated 2015 but were actually written 18 months before that - so are wildly obsolete - perversely the older system got new maps to 2019 in Europe
from the outside the easier way is to see if you have the later NTG 3.5 is to check the for the different later tail lights (that are just all red) - or inside to fold down the flap under the heater buttons and look to see if you have a large rectangular cover the size to slide in and out a 2.5" laptop hard-drive - you need that as they go pop every few years
earlier cars are another story and the central screen does nothing and with no comand control of whats playing - the reason on either early NTG 3.0 or later NTG 3.5 system for the joyauto set up is you retain the high quality electronics and correct size screen, but can get modern mapping, speed cameras databases, live traffic, BT phone and BT music integration with full view on the central screen and the comand knob control, alongside with children's toy feature set of a smart phone

do you know if this thing is compatible with an “old school” 30pin iPod with video. Thief were the last gen before they started making iPods look like iPhones.

the 30 pin is just a mess up by apple mixing multiple ideas in one connection - then everyone grew up and worked out you only need 4 wires to do it all anyway
the 30 pin does 5 and 12 v charging, control of the device, and both analogue and digital signals for sound - however apple never stick to ANY standards and seldom explain the lunacy of their logic - alongside further obfuscation trying to trip up third party vendors and their own developers
I'm sure its possible - but you might have some fun trying to work around apple's incompetence - after all ford and bmw all manage to turn the 30 pin in to a USB and get the job done

I watched Joyeauto's installation video and it's pretty major surgery. While I appreciate there's nothing permanent, like cut wires, etc., one has to completely remove the dash and display to complete the install.
It's too invasive for me to try...
