285/40 R19 tyres on rear wheels

Hello all,
I have a w221 car and I have rear tyres of the size of 275/40/R19 and I'm wondering if I can replace them by 285/40/R19. Why? you may ask : because I can't find 275 size, the only one that are affordable are 285/40/R19. My question is : is it fine to use these tyres on my w221 s350 MB or not, is it mecanically supported ?

Thanks a lot.

You can use the website below to see the specs and MPH variation between the two. Where I live, I've always gotten a hard time from shops installing anything that's not 100% correct...like my local shop won't install non run flat tires when run flats are speced (ridiculous, I'm know). Since you spelled tire "tyre", I'm guessing you are in Europe, so maybe a different attitude over there? I'd be weary of installing anything out of spec on a MB though....lots of engineering goes into their product, and perhaps the stability control or who knows what else might be a little off.

Thank you for your answer, I've finally managed to find the right size, on runflat though.
Cheers.

Just 10 mm wider tire should be fine. The only thing to check is that the tire does not rub either side. I would think there is 5 mm room on each side but you need to check your car.

Your speed would be 1% higher with 1% bigger diameter tire which should not be a problem and I don't know how your speed currently is. It may be 1% less than what the speedo shows you so the bigger tire could make the error smaller?

I think the wider tire would make the car look better. I have the staggered setup also on my E550 with 245/40 R18 front and 265/35 R18 rear and once I installed 275/35 R18 rear tires. It really made the car look better in my opinion. You would not think 10 mm width increase can even be seen but it can.
