Cost to Replace Turbo Coolant Lines on the M278

2013 S550 is at dealer getting a new water pump under warranty and they tell me they will also need to replace the turbo coolant lines as they break when removing the water pump. Warranty covers water pump and labor but dealer wants $2300 to replace the turbo coolant lines. Doesn't $2300 which they say is mostly labor sound a bit high to replace the turbo cooler lines when they are already in there replacing the water pump under warranty?

Anyone have any knowledge of this cost wise?

On my '08 CL65 the cost to replace cracked coolant lines was $6000 under warranty. Had to remove engine.

I know we are in the $4500 range. But we do every coolant line, thermostat, front cam covers, water pump, belt, idler pulleys, oil cooler gasket, and a few other things I can’t think of. . Just do it all, it’s worth it. The lines are a pain to in the ***, but 2300 I think it kinda high. Those lines can break if you just look at them.

I'm thinking about adding another MB to my garage. I've seen many posts over time about expensive turbo related repairs...is it just not worth it compared to finding a NA engine? What do you all think?

You get a good aftermarket warranty if you buy a car with an m278, and you will be covered. Seems to be a job that will last 50k to 80k miles. Sure it depends on how how of a climate you live in, or how often you hotrod the car. I just can’t trust m278s anymore. M273 one of the best engines ever.

Yah, I've got an M273 and am happy with it. I'm not a hot rod sort of guy...more like I enjoy this car as a highway cruiser. I'm debating perhaps a CL600 or S600, but a CL AMG model appeals also (hence the turbo worries).

with the v12 cars I would be more worried about ABC or the oil cooler leak on the valley between the heads. Also cost of brakes lol. Make sure you get an aftermarket warranty also.

Have you seen this? Looks like one supply, one return, per side. Plus maybe a bridge or tee-pipe.

This is what they replaced on the work order below. I did ask them last week before they job was started if they were replacing the turbo cool lines on both turbos and they said yes. I only see two lines on the work order.

Could be the left and right supply/return are assemblies, so possibly 2 parts instead of 4. Cheap price for parts. Not so cheap for labor, as usual.

Look at this video. Reason I took my car to dealer to begin with is because of the oil in wire harness issue that originates at the cam magnets and cam sensors. Since it happened to my car before they sold it to me I wanted to know how we can prevent it from happening again, I just found this video.

Mercedes needs to make pigtails with this feature.
