Clipped the curb front right
Last Winter I had a pothole event on the front left that cost me a tire on my 2007 S600. So I had a new Michelin on the front left and I have been running higher pressures usually 38 psi. Yesterday, I clipped the curb on the front right and a 4 square inch section of the outer sidewall rubber was torn off. And I got a little curb rash on the front wheel. Tire is holding air. Just ordered a new tire from Tirerack.
There was probably another 10K miles left on that tire but I don't feel comfortable at 80 mph with a weakened sidewall. I can just imagine a tire failure in the middle of nowhere.

It definitely is not the car. It is what my industry calls a simple user failure. I need to be more careful out there.

Tirerack delivered the tire this afternoon and I was able to get my installer to swap tires, balance the wheel, and remount it all. It turns out I damaged the old tire not only on the sidewall but there was also tread separation. I am really surprised it held air. Happily surprised, for a change. New tire is great.

Hard to believe. You know Tirerack always posts that it provides tire insurance for no charge and then they post it is worth $23 a tire. Well just for grins, I filed a claim on the Tirerack site associated with the insurance, and they found in my favor for $291 (the cost of the replacement tire). According to their site, they are sending me a check in the mail for $291 in the next 7 days.
Maybe I should also buy a Powerball lottery ticket.......

TireRack is pretty good and I've never had an issue with them denying a claim. I have used them several times for their warranty. They just request that you have the tire replaced or whatever work done at a shop, send them the receipt and they issue the refund.
