S Class Total Cost of Ownership
I am considering purchasing a used, probably CPO, S-Class sedan either a 2019 - 2020 S-450 or 550 model hopefully under 50K miles. While there seem to be some good deals out there, I wonder what the total cost of ownership will be in terms of scheduled maintenance and potential problem areas? For example are there major milestone services at 50 or 100K miles such as timing chains and what does this service and regular service maintenance (oil changes) cost? For background, I previously owned a MB ML350 (165K miles) and currently own a 2004 BMW E325i wagon (170K miles) and a 2000 Boxster (125K miles). So, I know German cars require regular maintenance and parts are expensive. I just wonder if newer models are reliable and any more expensive to maintain. The wife says no more German cars so I am also considering a Cadillac CT6 or Lexus LS500. I hear that the CT6 handles well and the Lexus just has that Toyota reliability. I just like the way a Mercedes feels! Can anyone provide me advice. Thanks.

the affordable option that you can budget to is Lease Hire - all the manu want you here
they then know which cars are coming up for renewal and build cars to a known order and timeline optimising factory capacity and thus their efficiency
to ensure we learn to play their game they invented a designed to fail timeline - random unaffordable costs and time consuming breakdowns - in today's world that's a great way to struggle with interest charges and lose your job
and in case we still linger for the old world, now they throw new tech at the car everyday so it feels like any 5 year old car is some model T ford missing all you need to survive -
and if that doesn't work we have rentable options to toggle on and off with your budget - 15 dollars a month for heated seats or 21 dollars for active cruise control
Lexus doesn't have Toyota build or relatability, it takes 97% and pushes it to 99.7% - whereas Merc are at 71%, 5% off BMW these days (with some evidence BMW are addressing it and Merc are adding software enhancements to help get you on that Lease scheme)
Toyota - (who are hybrid fans, as its the correct way to have a car that is environmentally responsible - vs planet destroying mining for elec only) - are moving their business model to a 10 year sensible life span - with the factories gearing up to take back the lease cars and refurb to as new, ready for the second owner... German ones are hit the 2 year mark and throw it in a skip - before it won't start again
