I'm always curious to know what people are currently doing to their cars.
  • Recently:
    • Replaced all four ride height sensors. They had manufacture dates of April 2007.
      • Before, I could never calibrate all 4 corners at the exact same ride height. Really wonky sometimes. This fixed it.
      • These are kind of a pain to replace. Doable, but not as fast as you might expect. Plan on cursing some.
    • Replaced a broken sunroof.
      • If you hear a "crack!", stop mucking with it...you'll only make it worse. I made it worse and had to drop the headliner and replace the entire assembly.
    • Installed a Renntech lowering module.
      • This does what it says on the box. I'm very satisfied. I can raise/lower the car in 1mm increments. If you get this, switch the units from SAE to Metric.
  • Today:
    • Bought the cubby that holds the cup holder. The one with the slow opening lid right in front of the COMAND wheel. Got it from the dealer for the same price as I've seen on eBay. I just have to move my current black cover of to the new box.
    • New OEM oil dipstick. The grab loop on the old one broke off.

Oh, that's nice. Where did you get it? Also, was the airbag section reused?

I have the tan interior. I'm going to re-dye the leather parts of the wheel this weekend but I don't have high hopes. The leather is pretty trashed. Does your guy have a website or a store or anything?

He has an ebay store under AGStyling but I have his cell phone and you can contact him via what's up. I will send it to you via PM. He is great with leather and a very quick turn around

I swapped out my cam adjuster magnets, power steering fluid and windshield washer nozzle hose this past weekend. I was going to do the oil filter housing gasket as well because it's very slowly seeping oil down the front of the block. I didn't realize the oil filter housing gasket was so involved. It requires an oil and coolant change and a whole lot of "while you're in there" parts. I decided to hold off on that one until it's time to do an oil change. I'll probably also do the thermostat, upper radiator hose, belt, tensioner and idler pulleys since most of that comes off to do the gasket.

Perhaps wrong thread as I did not do this yet but would very much like to do it.

My 2010 E550 has double sun visors, i.e., when you turn the visor down and then to the side window there is another visor to turn down in front of you. I would like to have this same for my 2012 S550 but don't know where to get one. MB sells parts only by the VIN and as this double visor is not original part of my car it does not show up for it.

Does anybody here have any idea where/how to get one?

Basically, no. The spring rate doesn't change. It just lowers the car. And my car is an S63, so it's already lowered a bit anyway. I just lowered the car maybe an inch to achieve a "1-finger" gap in the wheel wells and maintain the max "high" setting when needed. Also to be able to precisely set the height on all 4 corners.

I imagine that there are some aero benefits being that it's lower to the ground, but I don't notice it.

Probably get more traction if you start a thread asking this question.

I only see them for W222. Different hinges on that one.

  • OEM wiper blades. I’ve found that OEM MB and Lexus blades work better than aftermarket.
  • Valve cover and timing cover gaskets. Chasing down an oil leak. I’ll install in the next day or two.

Got new headlight lenses to replace the faded old ones this weekend and ordered D1S and H9 LED replacements to swap in while I have the headlights out anyway.

The lower center of gravity allows you to take turns and sharp curves much faster without the lean and body roll. Speaking from experience.

Is the replacement process a fight like with other headlight lenses?

Mine are somewhat dull. I need to try to buff them to see if that works.

True. The ABC suspension does such a great job of adjusting for curves that it's difficult to tell whether it's the ABC or lower center of gravity that's providing the great handling.

I will let you know after the weekend I have a feeling it's at least somewhat of a fight, as MB in modern vehicles glues their lenses just like almost every manufacturer. So it's basically heat and lots of patience separating the old glue, while being careful not to break anything. I am really just changing them because one of them must have been replaced at some point in the history of the car, and no matter what polishing I've tried, they always still look a little different. So the lights get refurbished with new lenses, LED bulbs and then a protective lightly tinted film applied to them. We'll see if it all works out as planned

Yeah, I keep up with his videos and saw that one. So, it seems like the same amount of drama to get the shell off.

I'm gonna try buffing mine first.

I'm due for the oil filter housing at next oil change. Why did you replace the housing instead of just the gaskets? Was yours damaged?

there wasn’t any damage to it that I could see, it was just starting to leak. I figured it would be easier to replace the whole assembly. Maybe I’ll clean it up, replace the gaskets and hang onto it for a spare

Mine is too but a MB replacement was $300. I was just going to do a gasket. I was going to wait until oil change time because coolant could get in there when the housing gets pulled.

I drained the coolant at the radiator, when I removed the filter housing almost no coolant came out so don’t worry. were you planning on changing the oil beforehand?
