So I did a quick internet search and believe it or not Pep Boys has two locations around here!!!! Just checked their web site for spark plugs for my S600 using their search tool. According to their site, platinum is $5.99 ea. and iridium is $10.99 ea.

Hello all,
Haven't been able to find a match for my particular situation in the forums. I have an '08 S550 4MATIC, 180,000kms.
There's a strange vibration / buzzing noise coming from the front of the car that's especially noticeable when I drive slow, seems to be from the left side. Vibration can be felt in the steering wheel.
Doesn't matter the position of the steering wheel and it only happens when the car is moving (forward or reverse). As soon as I stop, it stops. Car can be cold or warm.
It's there when braking, or if the car is coasting in neutral. Sometimes there's a weird click and then it stops for a few seconds.
I've taken off both front wheels to see if there's something dragging on the wheels & brakes but everything looks fine. Pads were replaced in the last year. CV boots are all in good shape.
I thought maybe steering related, but there's no noise when rotating the steering wheel when stopped (I topped up power steering fluid anyway, no dice). Steering wheel feels normal, doesn't pull.
Wheel bearings? But then why would it sound fine 20% of the time?
Scratching my head. Any thoughts?
Without hearing the noise, it’s difficult to say. Forward movement it makes the dragging noise and clicking (ball bearings tend to make that noise), stop and it goes away. I would venture to say it’s a wheel bearing. If it is, replace left/right bearings. Usually, you can feel excessive free play in the wheel, but not always. And yes, I have become my Dad…

Without hearing it, I am just guessing; but I would bet you a donut your problem is bad motor mounts. Easy to check. Open the hood (bonnet), put it in drive, hold the brake with one foot and slowly accelerate with the other foot. If the engine shifts position or jumps, put the car on a lift (ramp) and check the engine mounts for clearance. I am guessing the sound and vibration you hear and feel is the engine collapsed on the motor mount and touching the frame. Mercedes says the engine mounts are a maintenance item. They are typically oil filled and as they age, the oil seeps collapsing the mount. And if you replace the engine mounts, while you are there, check the transmission mounts. They all have about the same useful life. Good luck and keep us posted.

They figured it could be a vacuum pump, but if so, it should get worse, not go away.
All I can do is guess what it was, my money is on something with the ABS making it rapid fire engage / disengage.
I have a video of it making the noise, but can't find a way to upload it.
Anyway, thank you everyone for your suggestions and help.
Did you figure out the issue? It feels like i was driving on grooved pavement initially thinking because i saw road work being done around the area. But when i stopped the vibrating stopped. Not sure if its abs because i can stop normally?
I even thought it was a flat on left side.
Just wondering if u figured it out? Its not an engine mount because most if the time car drives perfect. Its either my stabilizer rods worn & air shocks are over compensating? Or an abs issue? Any advice?

No I never figured it out. It hasn't made the noise since. I wonder if there was some debris that got caught in the caliber somehow and was freaking out the ABS, but it's just a guess.
