Blind Spot Probelm

Hi,

I have a weird problem with the Blid Spont inoperative message of my 09 W221-S550. The problem comes when I fold the side mirror or go through a carwash.
Sometimes, when I park the car on sunny, hot days, the blind spot starts working, and it is good till I fold the mirror or wash the car. Has anyone had this problem and knows how to fix it?

Thanks.

I'm thinking two possible issues...

1) If you have your door mirrors set to auto fold - the wires SNAP - it varies with vehicle use, short runs lots of stops - 50k all dead and $2000 dollars wasted or higher mileage cars <150k - you have circa 10 wires per mirror that can all break in multiple places and or the mechanism wears out

first thing I ever did when I bought mine was go in user menus and turned off "destroy my door mirrors" feature. I fold them in when I need to, its on average once every 2 years - which is far more frequent than using the useless TV function

2) the BLIS sensors 'appear' to be some weird radar confusion within the rear boot air vents (...on cars where they have this feature.) - behind each rear wheel on the inner wings, are two low mounted large air release vents (to let you close the car doors easily) they are beautifully designed to let copious quantities of flood water fill very large buckets full of electric modules, I presume to take >10,000K out of you wallet if you allow water to reach them - all perfectly hidden from view, where the spare wheel area remains 100% clean and dry

Thanks for your responses. I think my problem might be broken or lost wiring since, on several occasions, the BLIS started working once the car was parked under the sun's heat. Is there any diagram or picture to guide me in identifying the correct wire to repair or replace? Also, I assume the broken wire should be located where the mirror folds, so I would not need to remove the door panel or mirror.

yes the break will be the door mirror loom - you can simply remove either door mirror WITHOUT touching the door card.... once the boor is open, you will see a strange (often) black large plastic semicircular trim piece. This pops off by hand very easily - leaving access to the multiple multiplugs of the door module (including the mirror wiring). These are pathetic thin wires, all black and exceptionally difficult to pull out from its sheath - if one is worn / breaking, many will be damaged - its needs the loom replacing - but then the silly gears in the mirror will self destruct shortly after = NEW MIRRORS - sit down, get someone to support you, take some tablets and anticipate the need for a new mortgage !

FYI its a 4 hour operation per mirror to dissemble and try to and replace wires and a spare pair of hands is required at times
