W221 Temperature problem
Hello guys!
Service changed thermostat with some not good quality one. I was drive few days and no problem. Last week car just show red indication to stop the engine. I do this in maybe 20-30 secs. I was stopped and after 20 mins temp was 80 degrees. I start driving and after 2 miles again 120 degrees so I was taking road help and go to service to change my thermostat.
So I gave few questions:
1. Is this car having electric thermostat because I see something on the thermostat it's looking like sensor or some other thing?
Electric I mean to open electronically.
2. Is this temperature accurate because I was no antifreeze outside car after this and go cold for 20 mins maybe car was not 130 degrees...
3. Is this car having electric pump to safe her in this situation?

They replaced the thermostat with a new one and everything is working normally. I even ran my first 300 miles.
Could she have been overheated and not have symptoms?
Could it be showing more on purpose to stop it from overheating?

I expect somehow it wasn't behaving and the readings you saw were not the whole engine temp - but its not a nice experience... for you or the engine
when a car is running hot its quite obvious...
there is an unusual smell as you drive (like its really too hot)
when you park you notice more smell around the car from the engine bay
and when way to hot the performance drops off and its idle and low speed running are far more erratic - it might stall or behave like it wants too, pick up from stationary is awkward, and low speed driving has this recalcitrant feeling with a woolly throttle response
these days the electric cooling fans should be running most of the time
