New S550 (2012/2013) owner with some questions…

Just bought a S550 and have a few questions…. It’s a 2013 per VIN but was manufactured in 2012. I’ve got a few questions…

1) When I search for parts and stuff do I do it for 2012 or 2013? I ask because the manual for the 2012 version matches all the buttons and features is see internally compared to the 2013 version… (in my VIN decoder search, I have this: 986 DEVIATING VIN WITH MODEL YEAR. Release date from factory was June 26, 2021…

2)When I lock my doors, only the passenger side front and rear running/tail lights remain illuminated for 30 seconds - the drivers side don’t…. Any suggestions? (I took it to local MB dealer before purchasing for a check and to get a ECU scan before buying and the only codes that came up were related to the seat air pumps so I don’t know if this is was setting or something the computer didn’t see….)

Thanks! (I have two other MB’s but this is my first S550…)

2013 cars are the later new S class - W222
the last build I believe was 2012 for the W221, indeed I expect after the summer hols factory rejig (that most german places do) early 222's came out around oct 2012

your ref to 2021 is a typo ?
the deviating bit sounds interesting does it say that on all chassis decode tools ?

re lighting - read the manual - have you got the indicator stalk in the middle, quite common for gemans to have ways to illuminate just one side
seats broken is normal

Yea, typo…Released June 26 2012 not 2021…

Thanks on the lighting, I was looking in the 2013 manual vs the 2012 manual and the buttons on the dash seem to look more like the 2012 layouts than the 2013 so I was confused on which version I actually had…

seats work sometimes but not others so was looking at online replacements of the motor but not finding many beside from MB (they wanted something like 2k for parts and labor…) I assume the motor on the pump is overheating/shutting off on the pump after a bit..

Ok. Will check. Went into the car settings for lighting and only have options for the timing on when the lights go off but not right/left sides…

im pretty sure it’s a W221 and not a w222. Manufactured in 2012 and the W222 wasn’t released until 2013…

and I realized after the post that it was the parking lights that were just illuminating on the right side as I had somehow moved the lighting switch from automatic to parking. Still can’t figure out why only the passenger side are illuminating as opposed to both… Both sides come on when main lights are on…

It's a multi position switch that can Illuminate either side of the car's parking lamps. At least it is on the w222 so I am assuming the same here. Freaked me out the first time I did it too as I thought the car was effed up.

on german cars often the indicator stalk sets parking lights to one side or the other - there is no need to flatten the battery with all 4 corners lit - it lasts longer and does the job on one side only (...outside)
however might not be legal to park back to front - so only enable one side for certain markets to stop owners getting it wrong (as they are a bit simple)

Thanks, it was the switch and also thanks for the explanation as my first thought was “that makes no sense…”
