Paperweight? CGW reset

Well, been a long time lurker never a poster but around a week ago when I was doing some work on the car and accidentally reset the CGW (ZGW) unit back to factory settings. I know, I know.....still kicking myself.

I have a Thinkcar dongle that does "most" of the services I have been needing up until this issue, now I need a tool to do the initial programming in this module so I can have the car back to normal.

Is it an option to install Xentry/DAS on a laptop and try to get dongle to do this programming? what other scanner tool can do this job?

either way you need the tools to get at the module and rewrite the toy count you had - the service mess up is a time waste and not really the issue

BenzNinja is the real deal and has done this work before on the w221....

Just wanted to update this post for future people like me doing this reset, hope is kot lost as Benz Ninja was able to connect to my car and set everything back to what it was, amazing job.

I need to calibrate the night vision camera but that is not benz ninja issue he left it ready to be calibrated.

Thanks @BenzNinja for your help, I'm super grateful for all you did.

if you do ever run into issues this is the way to go, don't waste your time, the professional service level is really amazing, I got an outdoor box with everything that was needed in there, connected it to the internet and Peter took over, car is running amazing now.

That is absolutely great news.

BenzNinja is the true expert with these cars.

Investment to the tools is the step to take but after that it is golden and his help pays back for the tools in just a couple avoided visits to the dealer service.

Had a new trans conductor plate fitted yesterday and they managed to knock out the retrofit options from the CGW. After a quick chat I offered to show them how I had added them without any real challenges.

By the time I got there, he had recoded them using an Autel scanner and admitted that the presumption is to have to SCN code everything as it's the ingrained mantra. So he learnt something new. It might not be a perfect solution, but it does free up possibilities.

The car still requires a gearbox, but that's a separate issue.

well of the four elements that are part of the CGW's brain - one of mine the "System Diagnosis" lost the plot - not sure how the car was "happy" in this state but it carried on collecting and storing faults and allowing you to use Xentry to work on the car and then clear errors

this was all correct and happy now I see this has happened - I love how its not coded for all these modules it has - but it can see them ???????????????????????????????????
and the Distronic Cruise DTR that was still working might be there????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????

I have corrected it now - after a fight - but whilst left column now has the DTR after a drive where its working, DTR comes back in the right column with a ????????????????????

What were you trying to achieve?

It doesn't 'see' the modules unless it knows to look for them, hence the box tick for present and not present. The list is essentially a list of every module that could be fitted. The default configuration is factory set but the actual configuration can be modified to reflect any retrofits.

I suspect you've somehow managed to erase all the coding from the CGW... Which is almost impressive. We're you trying to update the software somewhere?

Unless you were trying to resolve the ABS issue?

it is meant to show the left column.... it used to - somehow (likely since I've been getting lots of strange errors) it lost all its coding

year's back I fixed my main comand bug by turning on DAB in this list (after its retrofit didn't update this section in the CGW) and magically as soon as I did that the MOST ring confusion corrected itself - for years - no one could get their head around why my car would say it had faults but it couldn't be resolved or even have its software updated

everything worked but it would display in its fault memory fake bugs

That's installer error. There are box ticks for DAB in Comand, same as rear camera.

Have you ever seen my posts about bad connecting pins on the CGW and how soldering them fixed a can of worms in my car?

If you have the 4"x4"x1" size small CGW installed under the dash at the driver's end together with the AUX battery (shoot, you have left side traffic so might be located in passenger side end?), please take it out, open it and solder the pins that are the harness pins.

Or buy a new CGW and have Ninja code it for you.

It really sounds you have the bad unsoldered pins poor connections problem and the ONLY fix for the existing module is to solder then darn pins to the board. Easy job!!!

yep - not sure who you got to do it or how much Lead you have in your solder - but your looks fantastic ! - asked a mate to do it last month and its pretty ugly - its illegal to buy leaded solder over here - my brother was talking about it - a place beside his business unit is a start up now licenced to make plane black boxes - he has special permission to use leaded solder (he's not the one that did mine)

I have no idea when it lost that coding (in the system diagnosis section) - but about a year back I suddenly got lots more errors than I ever saw most appear to have zero effect - and clear but come back again

I have another CGW that has my VIN in there and the car will run on it - bit confused when we first fitted that one - it threw up the need to go back on SW to one ending 1327 - but the whole point at the time of getting it was trying to test if I could get it to behave on 1427 - (I can't get high line TPS or radar parking sensors to behave - every thing else is OK) - I popped that one back in the other day expecting to use Xentry to allow me to go back the the correct 1327 - but it refused. And Pete was on holiday - now I found and removed that fault in my original CGW I will see if thing behave
