Smile New ABC front struts

So I recently accidentally (when making a left turn at night) did not see a cement island in the roadway. I ended up turning my 2007 W221 S600 with 103K miles into an overland jumping vehicle. The noise from the impact was deafening and I am sure I hurt the car's undersides. My fault totally. Just didn't see it at 25 mph.

So having the car serviced for my upcoming winter trip to FL, I asked my tech to inspect the front end and the ABC system for wetness/damage. And of course, both original front ABC struts were leaking green blood. I asked him to mount new/reman OEM struts from Mercedes and run a rodeo. Surprisingly, no other components were damaged. The car drives like new again. I plan to drive it for a week or two and then take another look to make sure nothing else is wet. Sometimes with high pressure hydraulic systems you fix one component and the next one down the line fails due to the high pressures being restored. I routinely change the ABC filter and fluid every other year also to keep the system reasonably dirt free.

Also did an engine oil and filter, air filters, cabin filters, wiper blades, and a door "strap" for my driver's side. My baby is running fine again.

Well this could have been a lot worse. If Nitrogen bombs are original this seems a fine time to renew them.

An alignment is in order as well.

Both accumulators front and rear are recent within two years, but will consider as a preventive.

And yes, it could have been much worse. A very durable automobile.

Actually more worried about the two rear struts, also original, and the hoses (not original) now that full pressure is restored. I plan to keep the car, so if there is any wetness on any ABC components when we recheck just before departure, it will be replaced. This car is great on highways. Driving for ten hours with no sores and no exhaustion is so nice.

That's good to hear your car rides like new . I have had other Mercedes-Benz vehicles bottomed out a few times lol . It may sound funny but was scary as well . I imagine yours was more menacing to the car's components
Happy Driving

I didn’t have an ABC hose failure to a leak in the 221 S-65.

It did did have a quick disconnect that wouldn’t at the left front. The L/F strut would drip at full droop but not leak with weight of the car on it.

Two Arnott ABC struts were full of metal shavings. Still have the hose I intended to install. Strut and hose were still in the car at over 150,000 when the car got fixed with the 222 car.
