Hood sensor

2010 S550 4Matic Had car in storage for a year. Removed car and batteries were dead. Replaced auxiliary battery and charged main battery. Car started right up, but had an orange "Malfunction" on screen. When l drive forward or reverse, the radio mutes and a chime dings constantly as well and the shows a white car with a red open hood. Figured the hood sensor was bad, so l ordered a new OEM sensor from Mercedes ($59 as opposed to a China sensor $13). Installed it in 15 minutes, but didn't solve the issue. Called Mercedes, 50 miles away and asked for an estimate. Didn't tell them l had changed the sensor, and the advisor said the hood sensor was bad and quoted $500 to replace. Took it to my local mechanic for state inspection and he put his SnapOn computer on it and no codes. Found trunk sensor, but no mention of hood sensor. Any ideas to save me a $440 ripoff?

Have the other battery measured/checked.
Even if the car starts, it can still be bad enough to cause all sorts of weird symptoms, like you have.

Replace starter battery. I don't care if you charged up the old one.

BTW, your handle is awesome!

Make absolutely sure the hood lock with the sensor does close all the way and lock.
