Ac compressor noise ?
Few days ago I kicked the compressor on for Ac and noticed a familiar noise that sounds. Like a whine . It’s always been there in summer.
Could it mean the Freon is low or just the compressor tired. Ac works fine.
Thanks.
a domestic fridge has its compressor inside a black sealed housing and all its pipes are solid copper - plus they never get turned off - so they don’t lose gas
a car one has O-ring joined flexy pipes that leak gas - but the worst possible thing helping the exposed compressor seals give up is a lack of use
NEVER EVER TURN OFF AC IN ANY CAR ITS DESTROYS IT
the system cuts out below 3C to protect itself in cold weather and a great main reason to leave it always on is to keep winter moisture levels under control so windows never mist up when its raining
a car that’s used for 50 mile a week with AC never off will last 15 years no issue - any car with the AC left off for 2 months will soon self destruct its compressor seals and then its top it up every year or replace the compressor
Doing trans fluid for the rust time at 123k miles, don’t know if it was ever done, wish me luck before and rear Struts, MB new.
Can’t wait. Hope trans doesn’t die soon after.
R-12 - Dichlorodifluoromethane is a colourless gas popularly known as Freon used from 1930 (was banned 31 years ago) . It is a chlorofluorocarbon halomethane (CFC) used as a refrigerant and aerosol spray propellant.
In compliance with the Montreal Protocol, its manufacture was banned in developed (non-article 5) countries in 1996 GWP (global warming potential) of 10,700
R-22 - a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) officially banned in the United States January 1, 2020 studies found to be harming the environment.
it is now illegal to use R22 to maintain or repair your system,. If your air conditioning equipment was installed 1990s to 2004, it’s very likely to be running on R22. GWP (global warming potential) of 1,810
The Next Generation of Refrigerants
R-1234yf is a hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) as a successor to R-134A, especially in the automotive sector. It has a GWP (global warming potential) of just 4

Fast forward and did the patent run out again? Now we have stupid expensive YF. I’m certain it’s just a co-incidence.
I recall being told of how R-12 is a ‘forever chemical’ but somehow we don’t hear of the enviro fruits and nuts gluing themselves to roads due to ever worsening Ozone holes (that have recovered.... so much for forever). Hmmmmm

I remember buying a dozen cans of R12 just prior to the change last time (over 30 years!!!) and they were 79 cents a can then and the price went up to over $10 a can as supply dwindled. Same thing with R22 in my old second zone house A/C unit although those were double sized cans and cost $50 each. Last time I looked those were over $100 a can now. And you supposedly had to have a commercial plumbers license to order them. My plumber said, "You have to have a license from the EPA in order to f**k up the environment".

I'd read it was the lack of land mass in southern hemisphere, is what caused our northern pollution to make holes where they are....
the risk of skin cancers is way way higher today than it was 50 years back before we let all that R12 destroy the place
