Scratchy Bluetooth with iPhone

All of a sudden Callers are telling me my voice sounds scratchy on Bluetooth. Any ideas? I deleted connection and tried again and still an issue. Anyone have a pic of where the mic is. Beside the rear view mirror?

which headunit

NTG3.5 after aug 2009 - has factory phone bluetooth
NTG3.0 could be any 2009 or earlier car (as they didn't all sell through the second that factory did the facelift) - these only got BT phone via after sales kit (merc puck or viseeo etc.), or these days aftermarket addon that bypasses the UHI in the centre arm rest

if the NTG3.0 what devices is getting you BT

I fixed the issue by bowling compressed air above the rearview mirror where the microphone speaker is, it must’ve gotten dirty over the years

So, I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly the iPhone 13 that I have starter sounding scratchy or like I was speaking in a tin can. First suspected the car's BT has an issue but my wife's iPhone 16 sounded just perfect connected in my car.

Took the phone in the Apple service where they ran a test that said the phone is fine while I knew itis not. But what can I do when the phone maker says phone is fine...?

Then, a week ago, I just happened to look if there are any software updates for the phone and yes, there was one, iOS 18.5. I installed the update and guess what, the phone sound was fixed, and I don't sound like I was in a tin can and scratchy when I call from my car.

I'm glad to hear someone else has this problem as I know it was a phone problem and not my car's BT. There probably are plenty of others out there.

Hope this helps.

Apple and Bluetooth has been a barrel of laughs - Apple are so special every other industry std should first be ignored and if they need to adopt - again ignore the protocols and invent their own interpretation of something a bit like the others - queue 15 years of patches and tweaks till is mostly functions a bit on a good day

apple software is really randomware
