S350 Centre Console Release Button

Hey everyone,

I’m having an issue with my centre console lid. In short, when the button is pushed in, the lid is able to be opened. The issue lies where once you put it down, the release button doesn’t seem to push the two prongs out to hold the lid in place.

My guess is a spring has fallen out, however I cannot find and diagrams for this mechanism anywhere or how to disassemble it.

If anyone has any suggestions please help out.

I have attached a video showing this.

These things are super fiddly to diy.
Unless you have a super-expensive leather trim, i'd look for a new lid on eBay or such.

Have you tried just spraying some silicone in there are maybe tapping a bit? Sometimes the simple things work.

It’s a common failure. The small plastic latch inside the button mechanism snaps. The spring is likely still there, but the broken plastic piece won’t engage the prongs.
You usually have to carefully pry up the chrome button surround to access it. The part is cheap, but getting to it is fiddly. Search for W221/S350 center console latch repair there are a few good forum threads with pictures.
