Does anyone have a wiring diagram showing how the battery supplies power to the rear SAM?
Specifically the rear SAM appears to have two heavy gage wires going into it. One is red going into the side (left side of vehicle), the other is red with a white stripe and goes into the front of the SAM. Both go in from the bottom. Where do these originate?
The car is a 2010 S65

they all have the two heavy gauge wires - somewhere some must run front to back on the car - but the earlier one has that large power control unit and the rear battery on the right side of the boot
on yours I expect it runs to the control unit near the battery at the front and as you say to the front SAM
if you lost power I expect a pre fuse box or a relay (maybe with a fuse supplier its switching) in the other SAM or battery control thing next to the battery - or pyro fuse after a crash ?

I am trying to install an auxiliary battery in the trunk, in the place where the trunk battery in the older models was. I need to know which of the wires going to the SAM comes from the battery (or more likely the junction box near the front battery) so I can get the batteries in parallel and power the SAM directly from the rear battery.Originally Posted by BOTUS

Not sure what you're actually trying to achieve doing this🤔Originally Posted by auburn2

You'll probably need the body harness from an earlier car as the charging/battery/power management arrangement is totally different.
If you can get a used harness from an early car, then you might be able to repurpose the rear battery cabling to parallel the new battery to the front one. Doing it properly you're going to need the battery cable trays for the floor of the car to ensure it's correctly protected. Not to mention stripping the entire interior.
An alternative option would be to fit the European trailer hitch harnesses and module and use the trailer 12v to charge the auxiliary battery.

I can make a mount for the battery easily, there is plenty of room, I am not worried about that. All I need to take off is the trim in the trunk. The early versions don't even have a battery tray for the rear battery, it just sits on the sheet metal with a strap over top of it.Originally Posted by AL5461

The charging/power wiring is what I am looking for and need to figure out. There are already two 6 AWG wires going into the rear SAM, if one of these is directly from the battery or front junction it will be easy, just cut that wire and run it into an aftermarket terminal block and tie that into the aux battery with an 8 AWG fusable link. Otherwise I am going to need to run a wire all the way from the junction block in the front, and that will involve tearing out the entire interior, not to mention about $200 in power cable
Do you have a part number and wiring diagram for the trailer hitch harness?

Not to hand, but the wiring diagrams are on WIS. Option code is 550.Originally Posted by auburn2

Think Hitching Mechanism is #31 in EPC... But that should give you the details. The ECU is in Trunk Modules right hand, #54 or 82 iirc, and it shares the Parktronic/Distronic Plus bracket behind the right hand trunk panel.
When I said about protecting things properly, I mean the cable run. Although it should go without saying that you need to strap the battery down and the strap.from.the earlier cars is perfect for that.
